Here we see the P3’s memory scores being held back by the Pentium 3’s aging GTL+ (Gunning Transceiver Logic) bus. The memory bandwidth of the Pentium 3 is severely crippled compared to the Athlon. This is due to the Pentium 3’s SDR bus which was first introduced with the Pentium Pro generation. The Pentium 3’s bus uses one pipe for data going up and down compared to the Athlon’s EV6 bus that has a separate pipe for data going up and down.

Sysmark 2001

Sysmark 2001 is a good gauge to see how well a system performs in every day office applications. In Sysmark we see the P3 1200 performing 11% faster then the P3 1000 which is pretty good compared to the 9% speed increase from 933 MHz to 1 GHz.
