Benchmarks

Before I continue I just want to mention that these benchmarks were conducted using two different motherboards. The 1.5GHz Pentium 4 was tested and benchmarked on the Intel G850DB motherboard while the rest were tested on the Asus P4T.

BAPCo SYSMark 2000

SYSMark improves just a bit, but then again, jumping from 1.7GHz to 2.04GHz didn’t give a huge SYSMark difference anyway. The actual performance however is reflective of how much of a clock speed difference going from 1.7GHz to 1.8GHz is -- minor.

ZD Benchmarks

With both WinStone benchmarks, the 1.8GHz Pentium 4 improves pretty well over the 1.7GHz. Although the performance increase is relative with the clock speed increase, it is an increase and shows the overall scalability of the NetBurst architecture.

As the Pentium 4 scales up in speed, so does its productivity performance in typical office applications. Although it still has a long way to go, the Pentium 4 should be able to realize some significant improvements as soon as developers optimize their code. Optimizations only help the overall computing environment anyway, whether you’re on AMD or Intel grounds.

Everyone should keep in mind that AMD has licensed Intel’s SSE2 as 3DNow Professional. We’ll be seeing much more SSE2 programs and games very soon.
