Posted: November 2, 2000 Written by: Tuan "Solace" Nguyen Benchmarks The 3D Prophet II MX leads the crowd. This is definitely do to the RAM that the card stocks. Again, let me remind you that memory bandwidth is crucial to the performance of the GeForce2 MX. This goes also goes for the GTS. Even though the Prophet II is in the lead, it is not a significant lead at all. Very little difference is seen here. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you want the most bleeding edge technology, you might as well just stop reading. The GeForce MX is a Value card. However, its performance is far from “value”. It is state of the art and is the best bang for you buck! For the price of virtually any GeForce2 MX card, you can’t really go wrong for what you’re paying for. This card is great for entry-level gamers who have just gotten their feet wet and also gamers looking to put a good card into a second or third system without robbing a bank for money. Again we see the same trend here. The 3D Prophet II is a pretty fast card, ain't it folks? Yes it is. Overclocking Our GeForce2 MX overclocking article will be posted in a few short days so look out for that one folks! Analysis I think Hercules has released a really nice card. However, it is missing features that other GeForce2 MX based cards have for the same price or less. I’m talking about video-out capabilities, for the most part. Though not of major importance, it still adds to the feature set and the overall selling power of the card. And besides, if you can pay less for a virtually identical card that has an extra feature, why wouldn’t you? We also note that you cannot upgrade this card with anything. It’s as is and will stay as is unless Hercules decides to release a new revision. |
