Posted: November 2, 2000 Written by: Tuan "Solace" Nguyen Summing Things Up Performance: [ 9.1/10 ] This is the best performing GeForce2 MX card you can buy for your money, as far as we’ve seen at least. But, the performance isn’t that far ahead of other cards and I if other cards were significantly lower in price, I would have to think twice about purchase. Innovation: [ 7.9/10 ] The Prophet II MX isn’t quite “innovative”, not even by Microsoft standards! Heh, kidding. We still like the nice aqua color but we would have been more happy had the card came with features that we expect it to come with. One thing to note besides color is the fact that the RAM on the card is the fastest available for GeForce2 MX cards. Rated a 5.5ns and running at 183MHz. We’ll cover overclocking issues in our upcoming GeForce2 MX Guide and you can expect to push this card even faster than it is. Installation and Setup: [ 10/10 ] Our favorite part was opening the box. Bundle: [ 7.5/10 ] Here’s what comes in the box: The card, manuals, stickers and demos of your favorite games: Quake 3 Arena, Thief II, Rayman 2, Daikatana and Techyon. Also included is your standard software DVD player (PowerDVD). No full version games?! Hercules, couldn't you add just one? Ah, well, it'd probably be Forsaken anyway. Price: [ 9.4/10 ] You can currently find a vanilla Prophet II MX for a mere $114USD. That’s pretty cheap I say for what you’re getting in return. More decked out versions of the card that can do dual display reaches up to about $180USD. Conclusion Hercules/Guillemot has released a fine card to the 3D Prophet line and keeping with high standards of quality and performance they rise above the crowd in some areas yet seem to lack in others. But it’s not really a big deal. If you’re buying an MX card for a second or third system then you’re most likely not going to be using any TV out at all. But if you’re buying it for a new/main system and die for TV out, you should look elsewhere. But again, we like this card as it performs extremely well for a GeForce2 MX card.
