Going from 1.33GHz to 1.4GHz isn’t a very significant step at all. This is why we only see a small improvement in the SysMark scores. We probably won’t be seeing much more significant improvement from the current Athlon core until AMD turns up the FSB setting to a quad pumped pipeline running at 100MHz*4. ZD Content Creation Winstone 2000 The Content Creation bench runs through some scripts based on real world office applications like word processing and spreadsheet crunching. With Winstone CC, we actually see a few percentage increases, but again, not by an explosive amount. In a situation like this, it would greatly benefit the system if the Athlon had more memory bandwidth and more cache. Cache is a limiting factor for the Athlon processor as well as for the Duron processor. This is the reason why high-end server processors are always stocked with more L1 and L2 cache, sometimes even L3 although L2 is more commonly used. |
