Posted: July 9th, 2001 Written by: Tuan "Solace" Nguyen Benchmarks (cont.) Aquanox  Aquanox is a full DirectX 8 compliant game and takes advantage of GeForce3 features. This is the reason why the GeForce2 Ultra lags behind so much. We still see here that all the GeForce3 cards perform virtually identical to each other. It’s becoming rather obvious that the selling point in these cards aren’t their performance (well, initially it is) but rather the entire package deal. MDK2  MDK2 shows the same trend we’ve been witnessing throughout the benchmark section. It’s now not how fast these GeForce3 cards can move but how well they dress for show. Summing Things Up Performance: [ 9.6/10 ] The Morpheus gave me the best scores that I’ve tested in a GeForce3. It seems to do quite well in anti-aliasing modes and you really have to see Quincunx’s beauty and performance in action to really appreciate it. Innovation: [ 9.0/10 ] Realistically speaking the Morpheus doesn’t bring anything to the table that other cards don’t already have. Everything is pretty standard fair. Although this isn’t a bad thing, I’d still like to see more than “special ICE Cube cooling” that’s been done before. The real innovation is inside the GeForce3 GPU itself and NVIDIA already covers that on its own. Installation and Setup: [ 10/10 ] Installing the Morpheus was just as easy as installing the others. Bundle: [ 9.5/10 ] 3DPower/Absolute has the best gaming bundle I’ve seen in any GeForce3 package. They don’t include useless utilities and stuff we don’t need. They do however, include two great games (MDK2 and Dronez) as well as a voucher for a free copy of No One Lives Forever -- yet another great game. Price: [ 9.2/10 ] The Morpheus is selling for about $349 online. This is a pretty good price considering what you’re getting inside the package. And gee, that box it comes in… I use to be scared that regular paper boxes killed tress but the Morpheus’ wooden box just annihilates them. Overall, the Morpheus offers good things for its price. |
