i'm int eh market for a new hunting rifle. i've got about 300 to spend and would like a scope on it. i've been looking at the remington 710 synthetic with the 60° bolt action, a buddy has one and i like the feel of it. any opinions on this gun, or suggestions of another?

the availible calibers are 270 win, 7mm rem mag, 30.06 and 300 win mag. is there a difference in accuracy? suggestions on a good guage. i've only shot a 308 and a 30 30

That's not even close to the same thing.

Anyways I use a Remington model *. I can't rememeber the actual model number but it's a 243. Gets the job done.

I can't even imagine a 7mm, a 9mm feels pretty weak to me, its like a fucking pop-gun (albiet dirt cheap...).
You can get chinese AKs around here for $300 if you look hard and long enough...just a thought

No one uses AK's for hunting rifles, unless it is for coyotes or something.

Is this for deer...moose? what? I assume some type of big game. I don't know what they all have in Wisconson. I only hunt Pheasant and WhiteTail.

Ohh I see you have 300 to spend. I thought you have a 300. Like I said I have a 243 and works fine. So I would go with the 270. Anything bigger is overkill and wrecks more meat.

Hell, if you're going to go ghetto as CHE would say just buy an SKS. "Shooter grade" Yugoslavian SKS rifles can be had for 99 bucks, and they could easily take down a charging Scrubbin Bubbles. ;)

An AR-15 is not a big gun at all sorry. .223 is not a big caliber. You won't be taking much out with that, unless it's small mammals or people.

I actually liked the AK suggestion. A pretty big caliber gun with lots of after market goodies and cheap ammo. What's not to love? :)

Miller I suggest going with the .30 caliber for deer hunting. I would however refrain from the synthetic stock because the recoil from either the 30-06 or 300 WM will be uncontrollable with such a light stock. That's been my experience anyway. And for those of you that don't like guns, STFU and leave this thread alone. It's just common sense.

Don't they make a 308 caliber AR-15? It's more than Miller has to spend, but that would be fucking sweet. I bet there's a 30 cal version too, wouldn't surprise me.

its not a 7.62, but its not a small gun. Its no elephant gun, but its by no means a small caliber...

if your comparing a 9mm round to a 7mm round, go try a 7mm rifle and see how retarded that statment was...

I wouldnt say no one does, while its fairly uncommon, ive seen people do it.

actually the 223/556 is a pretty damn small when compared to most other rifle calibers
