Mine isn't very good. Same as before, all cheapie craigslist finds, but a hell of a deal.

The 32" standard def TV was $75
    Stand was free.
The main and center Energy speakers with a Yamaha 110 disk changer was $75
The rear surround speakers were $75
The sub is the old Dayton 10", like $120 when it was new.
The Onkyo 605 is decent, got it refurb for $350.
My DVD player sucks and the component out does not work.

I don't have the money for upgrades right now, so I'm holding off for a while. Next is probably a new subwoofer. What I really want (MFW15) is around $1000 shipped, so I probably won't get that, but I may get something to hold me over for a while. Speakers are probably next (I like the x-voice setup), which is around $2-3000 for what I really want, then of course a 50" HDTV and blueray player...but no matter what I'm holding off on the TV till its around $1500 or $1000.

    meh.

This thread just makes me upset :p

    The business end.

And the rears. Stacked on top of yet more speakers.

It's from India, I bought it from a smelly hippie in Eugene, Oregon. Smelly hippie capital of the world.

I was drunk and shirtless at the time.

    Yah, that was it.

    I do like it though.

    Angles.

    I just measured.

Precisely 9.5" between TV and speakers. Both sides.

Hey I did it on an extreme budget. The PS3 is about 2-3 months old, the TV was under 700 bucks with employee discount and something I budgeted and saved for for about 3 paychecks, and accessories are so ridiculously cheap for me that I wouldn't even dream of paying retail for an HDMI cable or TV stand/mount.

I was smart with my money and had to make some sacrifices but I did it and I'm not hurtin' :p

Nice TV, I bought the model below it on boxing day. Prices are much cheaper for electronics in the states :( also, our amazon and newegg fucking suck :p amazon is just books and newegg is mostly just computer stuff and weak sauce all together.

    Newegg.com - Panasonic VIERA 42" 1080p 480Hz Plasma HDTV w/Anti-Reflective Filter & 3 HDMI - TH42PZ80U

very very happy with it though.

I'm still kicking myself for not getting the denon avr-889 that FS had for 499, i don't know what those go for in the states, but they run around 800 here normally. or even the pioneer vsx 1018 for 399. but then I would have had to pick up the Focal towers I fell in love with and that would just be getting out of hand for one day :p

edit- chris where did you get that stand from? I have a mostly glass one right now and I don't really like it.

ehhh, I agree that cable is a waste of time and money, but I enjoy movies and video games and music, and the more technology I can horde the better.

no regrets..... except for the fact that the money paying for it is from my truck I wrote off :(

well I almost did something crazy in my HT upgrade...

I'm looking for a new soundcard, because the realtek alc888 onboard sound is giving me fits for surround sound over digital.

You believe how damn ahrd it is to try and find out anything about soundcards :\ But I finally decided that screw it, I was going to future proof and get the Asus Xonar AV1.3 It's got HDMI audio, and hardware decodes TrueHD and Master track. The card costs 250, but it's impressive.

Pretty sweet considering I was going to get a blu-ray drive soon (hell they are only 120 bucks now)

Then I remembered, what's the point in spending 250 on a soundcard, and 120 on a bluray disk, when a PS3 does all that, and plays games for about the same price.

so now I'm still stuck deciding on a soundcard :\ Bu8t at least I didn't blow a crapton of money on something that wasn't really necessary

I've heard bad thngs about the xonar, no first hand exp though.

I just got a PS3 on boxing day aswell, I've been planing to build a HTPC for a while now, but I'm almost thinking whats the point? I haven't had much time to play with the PS3 yet, but can't I stream music and movies from my other 2 computers to it anyways?
I won't be using the TV for a computer to much I don't think, the ps3 has a shitty brower when need be. what can a HTPC can do a PS3 can't?

*Official* Intel G45 DG45ID microATX HTPC Motherboard Thread - AVS Forum this is what im looking at using to build a HTPC, with a lower end core 2 duo I can build a nice system for 600 or so with a nice HTPC case, also this *Official* Intel G45 DG45FC mini-ITX HTPC Motherboard Thread - AVS Forum if I want to go micro ITX.

the board itself with the onboard sound and video on runs like 140 cnd, that might be a worthwhile upgrade depending on how the rest of your system is sitting right now.

in a smaller area an 8' sub might be a better plan, my old gear is still at my parents place but had a nice Boston acoustic 8' sub that I was pretty happy with. it can be a little lackluster for bass heavy music, but it was sufficient for everything else.

Pfft, no way would I buy a subwoofer that small. 12"-15" only.

It only happens at certain frequency points, and I'd rather buy a good subwoofer and try to fix the rattles in the room, than have crappy bass all the time :p

I don't have an HTPC per se...but I use my PC as a media center

    MSI P6N platinum, Q6550 @ 3.4ghz,
    8800GT with dvi->HDMI
    Toshiba 42" 1080p
realtek onboard "sound" over optical spdif to
    Sony STR-DG720
Sharp CR9850 tower speakers (3 way)
    Polk 10" powered sub
    Polk T15 surrounds

Now I just need a goddamned soundcard that lets me output my downloaded bluray movies, or hell, any of my movies into full surround sound over spdif, instead of Dolby Digital 3/2.1

It'd be nice if I could do it in games too :)

That's why I'm a little apprehensive about going to X-fi Fatal1ty route...I don't believe it outputs 5.1 game sound over spdif. I think someone has come up with a wrapper for it, but I can't be certain.

Hey now :p I was actaully pretty happy with it, a good sub, even in an 8 isn't going to sound crappy, I actaully greatly enjoy it for music, most 12's I hear are way to boomy and overwhelm everything else unless its in a large open area. I honestly think a good 10 would be the sweet spot for most people. if you have a whole big open basment you use as a home theater room then by all means a 12 or even a 15 if its mostly for movies is great, but for most peoples living rooms its to much.

    Init® - TV Stand for Most Flat-Panel Televisions Up to 50" - Black - NT-C1140

Got it for $54.. but if I had to pay retail I would. It's high quality shit dude.

Oh, and yeah I'm getting the Pioneer 1018 next.. Retail in the states is 599 I think.. I'll get it for about 380 hopefully.

Would wiring a Sub under my bed be a good idea?
