This is the standard term used for POTS modems. ex: "56K modems" were rated at approximately 56 kilobits throughput. Kilobyte - 2^10 bytes, or 1024 bytes. Often appreviated by "KB" or "K". Most file sizes and download speeds are referenced in bytes, not bits. For example, when you download a file in Internet Explorer the speed is usually given in Kilobytes. |
