Level of Detail - LOD refers to texture quality in terms of resolution, such as 256x256. A lower level of detail means just that, lower visual quality. Lower LOD also makes for higher framerates. Lighting Effects - Processes used to simulate light in a 3D environment by brightening surrounding textures and pixels near the virtual light source are called lighting effects. In most 3D games, a good lighting engine separates the games with good graphics from those with great graphics. Local Area Network - A network or group of computers all connected to one another within a small area is often called a Local Area Network, or LAN for short. A LAN Party is when you have a party involving a LAN and everyone plays games until the sun comes up. Here's a guide on setting up a LAN party. Local Memory - Memory attached to a specific device that it is reserved is called local memory. For example, memory directly on a videocard is considered local memory, because it is attached directly to the source of which will store data in it. Local Memory is used on a video accelerator for texture storage and z-buffer storage, among other purposes. Low-Frequency Response - Frequencies of sound between the 3Hz and 120Hz barriers are considered low-frequency. Generally, this is the range where bass is heard.
