Posted: February 4, 2001 Written by: Tuan "Solace" Nguyen Analysis After going through all that, one might ask, “Why don’t I just get a DVD drive?” That’s right, why wouldn’t you? I would. But, I also would get the UltraPlex if I have a Plextor CD rewriter. Using the two drives together gives you the ability to create bit-for-bit accurate burns using Plextor’s duplication software. Also, the UltraPlex is definitely your highest performance CD-ROM drive anywhere and the only one to feature a cutting edge interface. If you want speed, reliability, low CPU utilization and functionality, the UltraPlex Wide is definitely your best bet. Personally I wouldn’t go for another solution for setting up a cutting edge CD duplication system. Conclusion For the sake of competition, won’t someone please come out with drives that are better than Plextor drives?! I wouldn’t mind a little more competition here. Although I love Plextor, getting other companies to produce of equal or greater caliber is a great thing. And if that happens, Plextor will produce even better drives! There’s nothing much to say here in the Conclusion that I haven’t already stated throughout this review. The only drawback is that it doesn’t do DVD’s, but if you’re a hardcore-enough user to have purchased the UltraPlex Wide in the first place, you’ll definitely have a dedicated DVD solution right? :) The UltraPlex Wide 40 is the best reader for your CD’s bar-none and if you already follow the Plextor brick road, then the UltraPlex will make a fine addition to your system. Highly recommended. |
