Logitech Quickcam Cordless

Conclusion

I have mixed feelings about the Cordless Quickcam. On one hand, it does what Logitech says it will do. I walked around my house with the camera recording so that I could give a friend a tour over the web and the camera never once dropped the connection, and there was only a little choppiness. This is something I was told the camera wouldn't do, so I was impressed. The camera works great for motion detection and for use as a cool add-on to AIM and Yahoo chat. If you don't mind a small monthly fee, you can set up a webcam site at Spotlife, and even a live web broadcast if you choose. The installation is idiot-proof as long as you read the instructions, and battery life is good if you're going to leave the camera plugged in or in one spot for long periods of time.

On the other hand the image quality is not as good as I had hoped, and again this is due to the limitations of the current wireless technology, to get a reliable stream through walls and other obstacles, you need to sacrifice something, and unfortunately, image quality is really the only thing available. I give Logitech a lot of credit, as this is still a decent product, even with the less than stellar image quality, lack of flash for still images, and inability to stream video into a website, (other than Spotlife.com) with the supplied software. I look forward to what's coming down the pipe. I hope Logitech keeps this and future wireless cameras in its retail lineup. It can only get better.
