Posted: May 6, 2001 Written by: Tuan "Solace" Nguyen Quake 3 Arena -- GeForce3 vs. GeForce2 Ultra I decided that you might want to see how the GeForce3 performs compared to a GeForce2 Ultra in Quake 3. Quake 3 scales fairly well with faster graphics cards and CPU so it's a good measure of comparable speed between two cards.  GeFoce3 shines at high resolutions and it really shows in the results from the above chart. NVIDIA has also positioned the GeForce3 as a star when it comes to FSAA speeds. If we take a look at the Quincunx/4X results, we can see that the GeForce3 about 42% faster than the GeFoce2 Ultra! I compared Quincunx on GeFoce3 to 4X FSAA on GeForce2 Ultra because both have virtually the same quality and the difference lies only in speed. There is no reason why you should run games in 4X FSAA on a GeForce3 anyway since Quincunx looks the same or better and only takes as much of a hit as using 2X FSAA. |
