Leadtek WinFast A250 Ultra TD

Introduction

Leadtek has been around making nVidia GPU based graphics cards for a very long time. They have created some of the best performing cards available. They also make their cards for people on a lower budget by not including every feature under the sun. Their cards are usually of the lowest priced available. So if you’re a gamer on a budget, Leadtek would be a great company for you to purchase a video card from.

The WinFast A250 Ultsa TD is no exception. They decided not to include certain features, and gear the card toward the extreme hardcose gamer, that is interested in only framerates and nothing more. The price is still a bit high, but it’s the same throughout the market for a Ti4600 based card, but they are the best performing cards available, so you get what you pay for.

The box that the Leadtek packages the card in contains all the information you could ask for about the contents and specifications of the card inside. They make sure to include a picture as well; having a good-looking card today would most defiantly attract more consumers than a plain old everyday graphics card. Most companies are making their products look much more elegant than they were only a few years ago.

From the looks of Leadtek’s GeForce4 Ti line of graphics cards, it appears that they are aiming to design the most overclockable cards available. They include an active cooling system on not only the GPU but over the RAM chips as well. They include two fans, which are incorporated into the heatsink to cool the card. The fans have mesh filters covering them to prevent dust entry. Addition of this large of a heatsink makes the card significantly heavier than other graphics cards available.

Leadtek has included all of the standard GeForce4 Ti4600 features such as VGA, TV-Out, and DVI-I connections. However, they did not include video in. For such an expensive card, the consumer should have video-in available to them like many other Ti4600s that are available. Leadtek did not include a DVI-I to VGA converter either. I asked them about this issue and they said the model I received did not include a DVI-I to VGA converter but they will be shipping a model that does include the converter.

The software bundle Leadtek includes with their card fits it well. They include two full version games, Gunlok and DroneZ. They also include a driver CD with the WinFox utility included on it. The TV-out on the card uses s-video but you can use the s-video to RCA jack cable if you’re TV does not have s-video inputs.
