From the above graphs we can observe how the Toshiba beats the IBM in read performance tests and how both drives are matched in write tests. The GNX from IBM has a continues habbit of hitting substancially higher burst transfer rates, this however is pleasant to view but otherwise meaningless in true speed representation. A rewarding aspect however be it for the IBM or Toshiba is just how faster they are than a industry standard 4200rpm drive factory installed in many notebook systems shipping today, in read/write tests the difference is most commedable in the region of 60%. IBM loses the access time crown but regains supremecy in the CPU utilization test using 1.1% less CPU power than it's conterpart, the Toshiba GAX series. What has been exhibited to us are two things, first either of these drives beat a 4200rpm unit hands down and two the ball is thrown back and forth as to which drive is faster. Overall Toshiba manages to grab the performance crown in disk access time and drive read throughput, this makes it the fastest overall of the two. |
