 In Quake 3, the Pentium 4 performs very well and it still is the best processor for the game. But if you’re buying a Pentium 4 system, you’ll obviously want it to perform well in other games as well. Since there is a fleet of games coming out that support Intel’s SSE2 instructions, performance gains will be inevitable. For overall system performs, the better choice may still be an AMD Athlon. Once Intel releases its new socket platform, we’ll see some real improvements and investment protection.
