Conclusion

I’m definitely impressed with the Game Theater XP. It brings along many needed features such as a full set of analog connectors, digital connects and convenient ports that everyone wants. Unfortunately not every card has a perfect blend of features, but the GTXP comes extremely close to perfection. In regards to connections, I would have preferred more internal board connectors for things like CD SPDIF another aux connector for a second optical drive.

Audio quality and performance was the best I’ve heard and seen. Despite the analog cable that snakes from the card to the rack, no degradation in audio quality was heard by me or any others that were testing with me. We would have preferred it to be a digital one though, this way the cable itself can take up less room.

Construction quality in both the card and the breakout box seems to be high quality. I didn’t experience and breakage or loose objects. Components are well selected and the connections on the box are gold platted too. It looks like Hercules paid much attention to the press and fixed some quirks in the QA department.

One issue that is still a concern is the stability of WDM drivers. Currently, Hercules does not have official Microsoft certified WDM drivers yet but the day will come very soon. Hopefully all the minor issues will be ironed out; it’s just too bad they weren’t smoothed out in time for this review.

A lot of thought went into designing and manufacturing the GTXP and it definitely can be heard and seen. I am thoroughly impressed with the capabilities and features of the GTXP. It’s not as expensive as the SoundBlaster Live Platinum 5.1 and in my opinion has more to offer. If there’s one component to be proud of in your computer setup, it should be a Hercules Game Theater XP.

Overall Rating: [ 9.7 / 10.0 ]
