Posted: July 18th, 2001 Written by: Tuan "Solace" Nguyen Analysis and Conclusion Hercules has done a fine job producing the Prophet 3 and what catches my eyes the most are its heatsinks on both the core and memory. Other than that, the Prophet 3 is an all around GeForce3 card with all around GeForce3 features. Basically you have a well-cooled reference board. I know Hercules has done tweaking on its own like always, but I’d like to see more than heatsinks. ![]() What manufacturers need to do is take a look at what others have to offer and really consider matching and exceeding while keeping prices down. I know this is possible considering that Absolute Multimedia has done it. Its Morpheus is a plain GeForce3 but the package that comes with it is very tasty. I can’t stress enough about carefully giving people what they want. Perhaps Hercules thought that people don’t really play the games that ship in boxes anyway so it didn’t include a game bundle. But if it did more research, it would know the types of games people who buy GeForce3 boards would play. Give us DirectX 8 games; give us award-winning games. Give us a plain GeForce3 but give us a good side order. The performance of a GeForce3 is virtually identical to the performance of another GeForce3. It’s no longer about speed, but more about value added features. How far has the manufacturer gone to make sure its product is above the rest? Hercules has a tradition of giving us clean, optimized and speedy products without the excess fat. It’s done a wonderful job producing the Prophet 3. and I would recommend it to anyone since I’ve used Hercules’ entire line of GeForceX products and have yet to find one piece I don’t like. However, the time has come when more is needed. Hopefully the next Prophet release will hail the coming of extremely generous packages and all the good things we’ve come to expect from Hercules. |
