2nd Generation Transform and Lighting (cont.)

Is that detailed or what?! Smooth as silk, even at high resolutions like 1280x1024. The original GeForce could only handle one gargoyle. This scene has three.

Just thought you’d like to see some scenes. If you want to learn more about the GeForce2 architecture, read our GeForce2 Preview right here. Let’s move on.

Hercules 3DTweaker

Hercules includes a special utility called 3DTweaker, which lets you adjust core and memory speeds as well as FSAA (full scene anti-aliasing) for Direct3D and OpenGL. This is a pretty good utility since you can’t adjust different FSAA settings in the standard drivers for OpenGL. You can also turn V sync on or off to improve your gaming speed.

Bundle

Hercules includes a full version of PowerDVD with the Prophet 2 Ultra -- an excellent DVD player. PowerDVD is one of the best software DVD players out there on the market. You won’t be disappointed. Also included are demo versions of Quake 3 Arena, Thief 2: The Metal Age, Daikatana, and Tachyon: The Fringe. These demos are nothing to write home about, but they keep you entertained for a little while.

Other than that you have your manuals for PowerDVD and the card itself. Hercules also gives you a set of stickers you can play with.

Let’s get on with some benchmarks.

Visual Comparison

Before I continue with benchmark numbers, I thought you might like to know that the 3D Prophet 2 Ultra produced a sharper and clearer image than the Gladiac Ultra. I tested both cards in the same system using a NEC MultiSync FE1250 22 inch flat monitor. Both cards were tested at 1600x1200 at 85Hz. After long use with the Gladiac, I switched to the Prophet only to be stunned by the quality that was produced. My initial reaction was “wow!” If I lowered the Gladiac’s refresh rate down to 75Hz, only then would I get the same sharpness as the Prophet.

I’ve sent this information to Elsa and they have people looking into this, and hopefully it can be resolved.
