Posted: August 2, 2001 Written by: James Kennedy Introduction Starting out in 1984 and quickly rising to the top of the OEM market, Gainward is becoming one of the bigger retail brand names. Although a huge force in Taiwan for years, Gainward isn’t too well known among U.S. consumers. This is changing though, as Gainward continues to pump out quality and feature packed products at great prices. I was lucky enough to receive Gainward’s newest product, the GeForce3 PowerPack!!! for reviewing purposes. As I found out, this wasn’t your ordinary PowerPack!!! as it had a “golden sample” sticker on the front. I wasn’t exactly sure what the “golden sample” sticker signified but according to Overclockers Austrailia the “golden sample” cards are cards that tested much higher than the normal PowerPack!!! cards and are guaranteed to run at a speed of at least 220 MHz for the core and 480 MHz for the memory. I was anxious to test out all the features and play around with the utilities, so I quickly opened up the package and got to work. The Card You'll notice right away this isn't your typical video card, at least color-wise. The PCB is red, and looks very cool. The included memory heatsinks and fan weren't anything special, but they do get the job done, even in an overclocking environment. |
