Chaintech Evolution Event 2003
If you ask anyone in the US market if they have heard of Chaintech, or better yet, tell someone you're going to the Chaintech Evolution Event (CEE 2003) in Spain, the most likely thing you'd hear is "Who's Chaintech". The answer is simple, behind Abit, it is the 6th largest motherboard manufacturer in the world, and that is with almost no presence in the US market…yet. I say yet, because out of all the information we heard, the only solid news was Chaintech's intent on entering the US market with a fury only seen when you won't let a fat guy get at the "all you can eat" salad bar at Sizzler.
You may be wondering what the Chaintech Evolution Event (CEE 2003) is all about. In short, the event is Chaintech's very own version of CeBIT, though a somewhat more intimate showing of new products for its European customers and relevant press. Speaking of CeBIT, Chaintech, a regular at this well known event, will not be attending this year.
Along with Chaintech, we saw presentations from Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, VIA, and Microsoft. There really isn't anything new to report with the exception of a few bits of rumor and speculation surrounding the delay of AMD's Hammer, and whether or not the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra will ever see the light of day in mass. But, I'll cover those topics a little later.
We've got a lot of ground to cover, so let's take a look at the highlights of the CEE 2003.
