Benchmarks (Gaming)

Quake 3 Arena

Quake 3 is a good test of CPU and FSB speed. Memory isn’t a big concern as you can almost do well with 128MB of RAM. The biggest helper here is CPU speed increase. Once again we see the Pentium 4 taking a sizable lead because of its QDR (quad data rate) FSB. At lower resolutions, the 1.33GHz shadows the 1.2GHz by a significant amount of about 5 to 10%.

Unreal Tournament

UT is a CPU intensive game and I don’t know how many times I’ve said that in past reviews. Looking at UT16bit, there’s a huge gap between the 1.33GHz Thunderbird and its competing 1.5GHz Pentium 4. The Thunderbird’s math prowess come into play in UT and really shows the potentials of this processor.
