Posted: January 13, 2001 Written by: Tuan "Solace" Nguyen Conclusion The heat between AMD and Intel isn’t going to slow down anytime soon, and with AMD now once again ahead of the "MHz War", Intel is surely going to do something about it... if they can. I wouldn’t be surprised if a 133MHz FSB Celeron shows up in the near future. The 850MHz Duron does not boast new technology and it is exactly the same as previous Durons, except for the speed. With this in mind, it gets you a performance boost respective to previous Durons. In regards to platform and market share, things will bloom for the Duron once VIA and SIS release their integrated chipsets. Then OEM’s like Compaq and IBM will begin to dish out systems for the value market and we’ll see AMD gather more audience with the Duron. In final note, this is a step in the right direction for AMD. It used to be Intel who was always in the lead for the MHz crown, but AMD is finally showing what it can do. The 850MHz Duron is one fast and cheap processor. If I were in the market for a CPU right now, this is one I would definitely consider, or even slower Durons. Once again, thanks for reading.
