Users of socket-based motherboards will appreciate the new base and the new shroud. Some of you may have trouble fitting the heatsink onto your motherboards because the fan is positioned on the heatsink side and thus, taking up room that’s usually home to large capacitors. Motherboards like the Asus A7V series do not have this problem. Performance wise, the PEP66T is one of the best heatsinks out there if not the best. The only heatsink I know to beat the PEP66T is the Swiftech MC462. Although I haven’t seen the increasingly popular Swiftech heatsink myself, I hear it’s the best air-cooling heatsink available. However, the price paid to get a minor decrease in temperature from the PEP66T using the Swiftech is a little too high. The Swiftech MC462 is more than twice the cost of a PEP66T but does not offer twice the cooling performance. In our opinion, idling at 41.5C on a 1.33GHz a really good temperature to be at. Considering its price at about $30, the PEP66T offers excellent cooling for a good price. This heatsink is one that you seriously should consider if you’re in the market for a processor running above 1GHz or intend on overclocking. ![]() Thanks to The Heatsink Factory for graciously providing the Alpha PEP66T to us for examination. They have new products like Rounded UltraATA/100 IDE cables and a increasingly large selection of new heatsinks. You can also find the high performance Alpha PEP66T heatsink there. |
