Conclusion

The Voodoo3 2000 offers good performance for a great price. If you're looking for a cheap entry into the 3D graphics world that is compatible with just about every game, you should at least consider this card. However, I suggest you wait a few months for the Ultra TNT-2 and Vanta cards. If you're looking to upgrade your old card(s) consider the performance difference... is it worth it for you to upgrade to a product that offers only a small performance increase? Or perhaps you want the support of higher resolutions? This card is not recommended to replace a Voodoo2 SLI configuration, because it offers only slight performance increases and no real advantages except higher resolutions and good 2D. Another reason to wait for the Ultra TNT-2 and Vanta cards (along with other upcoming cards) is to find out if games will take advantage of 32-bit color, large textures, and full AGP support in the near future.

[+] Good

  • Good performance for an even better price
  • Play games at high resolutions with fair performance
  • 300 MHz RAMDAC ensures high, clear refresh rates
  • Great 2D output at high resolutions, as well as good TV-Output
  • Near 100% compatibility with 3D games due to Direct3D, OpenGL, and Glide support

[-] Bad
  • Lacks 32-bit rendering support
  • Uses AGP but fails to take advantage of it
  • Slightly washed out, less vivid colors than TNT or other new chipsets
  • OpenGL ICD still needs some work
Overall Rating: 9.2
