The mental health and background check stuff he passed/advocated is mostly a good idea. The specific firearms stuff (brady law rehash and more,) is pretty fucking worthless though. Pistol style grips being dangerous? God forbid someone rotates their hand 45 degrees to hold a gun. Extended magazines? My wife can swap a magazine in 5 seconds and she is a bleeding heart liberal (we had obama yard signs last year =) ) and was scared to death of guns until a few years ago. Also look it up, handguns are way more of a problem than assault rifles. Do we have a "need" for assault rifles? Nope, besides they're fun to shoot. Shitload more people are getting shot with pistols though, homeskillet doesn't shoot his neighbor in a drunken argument with his AR15... As far as "they gon take our guns"? I can't see it happening, there are already way too damn many guns out there to make that happen. People point at Australia as an example of a successful buyback program. Look at how many guns we have per person, its something close to 1:1, way higher than anyone else. Does that make it right? Not necessarily. But it also makes it realistic that its going to be a massive fucking undertaking to make a meaningful dent in that. Does it mean we shouldn't try? Not sure, but I am pretty sure that things will not be handled in the best/smartest way. The policies are being floated by politicians, they're bound to fuck it up, and half of Obama's suggestions are a good head start. Seriously, stop embarrassing yourself. Perhaps if it is a unilateral disarmament it'd work. The laws in place already contain provisions for background checks that includes mental health. The laws aren't being adhered to or work now. What makes anyone think that passing more laws is going to do anything other than create a situation that could severely limit life if need be. More restrictive laws aren't the answer when they can't/won't enforce the laws on the books. What's more, if public safety were the real motivation, why hasn't there been cell phone blocking technology installed in cars or even an outright ban on cell phone? They kill a lot more people than mass shooters.
