On a plus note, gas has gone down 16-cents/litre here in Regina. :) And I need to top up my car.

I hate to break it to you Torx, but in the event of a social collapse you would likely have to fight for basic resources to survive. And the less resources you have at the beginning of such a catastrophe the more you'd have to fight during one. I'm just saying, you seem to be taking glee in an event that would likely kick you squarely in the nuts.

Not worried about it. This happens about every 10 years or so. Money just moves from one place to another. Right now banks and real estate are not the places it wants to be so it'll go into other industries. Great time for business if you look at it like I do.

Well when The Apocalypse does come, my family and I will be thoroughly stocked up and taking to the sewers! :) On a side note, I had a ton of supplies just in case of a natural disaster.......tornado, flash flood, etc. and I'm glad I did. Ike left us without power for awhile so my paranoia payed off. I'm just sad that I didn't have to crack off a couple of rounds.

God, when and if the shit really hits the fan and the U.S. did collapse, all hell will break loose, duh. I think its going to be really interested when everyone gets the "head for the hills" idea and we have tons of people trying to live off the land. That's going to get pretty messy too. I think everyone will hear non-stop gun fire for a good week or so... It's a good time to start a cult/religion though. Follow me into salvation. Oh yeah and bring your daughters. I've got a plan.

It never hurts to be prepared, but be prepared to be labeled with a tinfoil hat.
All my energy experiments are inpreparation for the day. This happens to be the worst finnancial event since the 'great depression' but the media is being used to downplay it. It's interesting how so many countries and even regions
are suffering too. The USA tit has been sucked on for alot od decades. What would happen if we did colapse financially? I say bring on the inevitable. I see it as an inevitability because trillions were made for many years with the same biz model as the enron, dotcom, residential housing bubbles. it has been a "take-the-money-and-run" world economy for fourty plus years and when this particular bubble pops. every man woman and child is going to recieve thier dose of fan/fecal matter splattering. BTW, glad you were prepared and had a resource to fall back on in your time of need....way to take care of your family man!
What surprises me is the attitude ofinvincibility most of the population shows towards being affected by a possible world financial collapse. It can happen here, and in alot of cases already has......we're just real good at denying it for the sake of the top tier's continuing to make thier profits. those of us at the bottom, have felt the sting for all of this year and part of last. well, the shit came down, it's full here and is stacking up to inundate the "upper rungs" on the ladder.

My money outside of my long term retirement savings is all tied up in the stock of the company I work for. We took a hit on monday, from $22 a share down to $19.62. I bought as much stock as I could at that price and right now it is closing in on $26. Woot woot, market fluctuations ftw.

Things happen, when the upper crust gets burned. The "pie" isn't pulled from the oven when only the bottom is burnt to a crisp, but when the top turns black, it's not only pulled from the heat, but huge effort is made to save the pie, rather than chuck it and make a new one.

I just have a feeling that we haven't seen anything yet, the Bush administration still has several months left in office and it's a going out of business sale. Where are the investigations and/or hearings on what happened, who is responsible, etc. from the lowest rated Congress in history which is Democrat controlled and loves to call for hearings and investigations so often? Nothing. They want to go on vacation in the midst of one of the biggest financial crisis in US history.

Don't think I've ever quoted myself, but it gets worse:

U.S. weighs bailout of foreign banks, too - International Herald Tribune

    lets also throw in this:

Fury at $2.5bn bonus for Lehman's New York staff - Business News, Business - The Independent

and might as well add this I guess as a side note to go with the foreign bank bailout story:

World Tribune — Sol Sanders: Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus: The American taxpayer

Yet, with this financial crisis, I kind of doubt we'll stop any foreign aid to anyone or AIDS money to Africa or maybe cut some useless government programs, ask for Iraq to start paying us back with some of their surplus profits, and try to sew up our borders and pass some laws that prevent social services for illegals.

You calling credit card companies thieves for charging late fee's and over limit fee's and the collapse of investment banks aren't really the same thing.

I can't really foresee how bankruptcy was part of there big evil plan.

Around this time last year those companies where still making huge profits, of course their CEO's were getting huge bonuses. that's no different then any other industry in America, and also wayyyy off topic from you complaining about credit card fee's. And yes there will be plenty of people going without their bonuses this year. You can't draw a bonus from a bankrupt company.

I take offense to you saying that an entire industry that spans the globe is run by thieves out to do you harm, that's a delusional view and I think you have a lack understanding of finance if you truly believe that. Was there corruption at the highest levels? Most probably. is that different then anything else in America? Not really. they got greedy in their search for profits and they fucked up, there was no evil plot against you or anyone else. That's good old fashion capitalism. Something your country was founded on. The Canadian financial sector is doing just peachy in comparison simply because we operate in a more cautious and ultimately less profitable fashion, big risks mean big profits and also the inevitable big failures, This happens to be the america way, and if you have a problem with that, preach to the choir because I do to. Last time I ridiculed the america way of doing things you gave me shit and called me disrespectful.

The construction industry that you work in couldn't exist if banks didn't fund it and lend to people allowing them to purchase homes and business. Did you guys have any issues building homes for people that everyone seemingly new couldn't actaully afford them? Nope, a jobs a job right? everyone needs to eat. Where does that put you guys on your righteous moral compass you use to judge everyone else?
