Torx seems like you like cubism, it's a specific form of abstract

Most of you guys have seen some of the artwork by my friend Joe (quotes in my sig are from him while drunk). His is the only real art that I enjoy, probably because I know him and know the feelings he expresses in his artwork.

    LOL fro hat.
I like painting =] I'll take pics of some of mine during the day. I like to paint kinda random things. I have a giant cookie in a field, a whale, a cat, a self portrait, and one that goes from black to purple to pink. So far I've worked with oil paint and water color. Acrylic stinks and dries fast so I'm a little scared of it. I'll have to plan something to do in acrylic.

I have waaaaay more drawings than paintings though

Acrylics don't stink lol. I love the smell of paint. I have an oil landscape I did when I was 10 or 11 somewhere...I think my mom has it. You guys have seen all my are though. I haven't done anything new lately I still need to draw a portrait of Xen and Wiskas from last winter lol.

I'm more into what giggidygee is into. I have an oil painting set but I've never used it:(

I would love to learn how to paint like her second pic, where really large brush strokes and thick paint are used. I love how real it looks from far away but then up close it just looks like blobs.

Honestly, if you're going to be throwing up art work like that, the rest of the room/house should compliment it or vice versa. I've been to a lot of places where people have paintings up that completely clash with the rest of the house. It looks so tacky.

You should just go for it. There is really no wrong way to paint. Are you a fan of Claude Monet?

i like a good painting i can sit back, relax and transport myself into that world. a quick getaway. A good painting will do that.

I'm like that too but then I start thinking about how exactly the artist created the painting and I start admiring the skill involved as opposed to the art itself.

It may be a bit cliche to like Van Gogh these days.. but I'm a big fan of his. I even took a course entirely on Van Gogh's experiments with Haiku's a few years ago in college. And of course when I was in Amsterdam we went to the museum dedicated to him as well as the Rijksmuseum with this gem by Rembrandt (which spans 12ftx14ft)

My favorite painting is the Night Cafe by Van Gogh, though.

My favorite period is would have to be Baroque. The way they just learned how to use shadow and light contrasts and different techniques like "projection" and the use of mirrors. One of my favorite artists is Diego Velazquez
This piece is one of my favorite by him:

There is so much symbolism in his work.

Another favorite is Narcissus by Caravaggio

The people in the mirror that are supposedly from other paintings of his have always creeped me out.

They are the girls parents I believe, I'd have to break out my huge ass art history book to be sure though. I would love to be an art historian, but there is like zero money in it unless you get to be a curator.

Art History was one of the most memory demanding courses I've ever taken. It made it not enjoyable. The books are awesome, though (and so expensive I will never throw them away).

Ditto and I took them at the same time. It really changed my perspective on religion. I really enjoyed Art History 2 more than 1 though.

I'm doing my best to fill my house with local art.

That said, I need to make some shit myself. I have lots of ideas for crazy sculptures, but I haven't made any of them yet :(

Heh, one of my coworkers does that.

My ideas are more in the vein of 'sculptures from everyday objects' kind of things.

I just need to freaking start :(
