The sad part is none of that would have stopped the murder of those kids.

since the weapons he used weren't his own, pretty much nothing being proposed would have prevented it.

I think treating guns like cars would be ok.

True but it's not about preventing these types of things from happening because that's impossible. But what should be done are things that would help to minimize the amount of these incidences.

We've faced similar issues in the past and we have been successful at reducing unecessary deaths. For example, compare the death rate from auto accidents in the past to now, much lower. The same could be said with regards to aids, building safety, airplane safety, etc.

It's about doing reasonable things and having reasonable expectations.

And how can you compare the effectiveness of legislation in these other issues compared to guns? Guns were designed to kill. You can not take out the inherent risk without changing the effectiveness. No matter what, they shoot bullets. You can't reduce the danger without reducing the size of the projectile or reducing the speed it travels.

I simply disagree. Education, safety, and awareness can all be used to reduce the number of gun deaths a year (most of which are accidents).

Remember, guns don't kill people, people do. Address the issue and you can reduce the risks.
    Sparky says thanks for this.

This is one of the people responsible for the proposed gun laws. The ignorance on the subject is astounding.

Inteligence is not driving the anti-gun movement. Emotion is and that's why it's proponents are acting so quickly, vocally and with such need for drastic measures.
They know that the emotion will wear off. Now the social media scene is the best tool for them. Stirring up emeotion, keeping it high and not have to proove a thing.

Agreed. So why infringe on everyone's Constitutional rights for no reason?

Yeah, I saw that. Somebody at that newspaper is going to get shot...

This shit has been in the works for a long time now.
The Conn thing was just an easy pitch to the American public.
Hyperbole (maybe) but definately something to consider:

    Is this vid being censored?

Imagine this being an everyday sight (they look more like APC's to me....but oh well):

i like the part where they expose the law abiding citizens

while the drug dealers, gang members, and corrupt people continue to carry illegal weapons.
i dont like where we are going in this nation.. but i hope this CT shooting gets uprooted and exposed for what it is and was.

    lol@ the train vid.
im more amazed at there not being any engines in the back pushing. can you image the amount of weight that line is?

I wonder where those APC's came from. Most every one I've seen for the past ten years has been painted urban camo or sand camo. Those are jungle/woodland camo there.

Most likely came from the National Guard. They keep a variety of tanks and such for training and those "just in case" scenarios.

It's scary what the National Guardsmen are given free access to. Had a guardsman in my home town attack the home of his ex-girlfriend with his issued M16 back in 2001 or 2002. When the cops arrived, he tried to go the death by cop route and started shooting at them. Wound up grazing the deputy's head and blowing his thumb off (fully recovered, and is now the sheriff). His ex-girlfriend's dad wound up tackling him from behind before he was killed by the cops.

Anyway, that's a whole other story. You think it's the civilians we need to worry about? ;)

Yah, I'm not going to bother with that, although as an owner myself I've gotten in a few debates on the issue recently.

I just want to say how sad and fucked up it is that these things happen and that that it seems there has been quite a few of them in the last year... ugh.

What the media is reluctant to expound upon is that one situation feeds off of the previous one.
The FBI even has a "syndrome" for copycat crimes.
There have been studies as to the adverse effect of the media on kids. http://www.oup.com/uk/orc/bin/9780199205431/maguire_chap11.pdf
All in the name of sensationalism.

I was talking to my brother in law last night. He was telling me how he didn't think that people should have automatic weapons and they should at least get rid of the automatic weapons that everyone seems to have. It's funny how uninformed everyone is. I promptly explained to him how an automatic firearm (assault weapon) hasn't been produced since 1986 for civilian sale.

This is kinda what I've been griping about. People leave it to the media or government propaganda to educate them. Like this BS here:http://www.reuters.com/article/2012...227?feedType=RSS&feedName=domesticNews&rpc=76
Who, in their right mind, would hawk a 500 dollar-for-used assault rifle for 200 bucks? Notice the media called them "automatic weapon"? On the CBS news article about it yesterday, they showed police handling nearly new AK's in a barrel,. But the only arms they showed the public actually handing over, were old, tired and worn out shot guns and junk revolvers.
This brand of ignorance has resulted in the nation we now have. Nothing will improve on it's own, it'll only get worse.
