The Motherboard: Abit KR7A-RAID
For performance, the motherboard of choice is Abit’s KR7A-RAID. The board features VIA’s KT266A chipset, HPT372 ATA133 RAID controller, and Soft Menu III. The KR7A is currently one of the fastest KT266A boards available.
Northbridge cooling
The heatsink fan on the northbridge of the KR7A-RAID isn’t that loud, but it causes vibration which produces noise. For that, you could just take off the fan. The KT266A should run fine using a passive heatsink, as displayed by MSI. This could limit overclock ability if you plan on overclocking, but sacrifices must be made to keep the system silent.
Memory
Any type of PC2100 memory would work here. I highly suggest the use of Crucial PC2100 for their price and quality.
Soundcard: Any
Take your pick; it doesn’t really matter since soundcards don’t use any type of cooling.
