Here we see the Pentium 4 dominate the Athlon XP2100+ by 28%! This is most likely due to the SSE2 instructions and the 400 MHz Quad Pumped FSB that the Pentium 4 possesses. While the Athlon XP possesses SSE instructions, it still falls behind the Pentium 4 when it comes to content creation. ![]() Sysmark 2002 Office Productivity is a benchmark that thrives on a system’s I/O subsystem (hard drive, hard drive controller performance), so the system’s Hard Drive controller will affect the performance. When it comes to everyday applications, both processors perform very well with the Pentium 4 taking an 8% lead; there can many contributions to this. Most will say that it’s because of the Pentium 4’s clock speed advantage, I very much doubt it. I believe it has to do with Intel’s Application Accelerator, which improves application performance, and Intel’s superior hard drive controller compared to the VIA VT8233C South Bridge, which was reported to have problems sustaining data transfer speeds. ![]() Quake 3 Arena is a benchmark that when run at low-resolutions will be a good CPU performance gauge. All tests were run at 640x480 in High Quality mode. Here we see that the P4 2.4 GHz outperform the Athlon XP2100+ by 6%. This shows that the P4 is still the reigning champion when it comes to Quake 3. While the Athlon XP2100+ puts up a good fight, it’s still no match for the P4 2.4 GHz due to its much lower clock speed. |
