Heads in the Mustang

Introduction

I was sick of the Mustang not running fast enough, so I tore it down to the block, cleaned everything really good, and put ported E7 heads on, along with new headers (Shorty 1 5/8"), and full 3" exhaust.

Pictures!

Here are some pictures:

Here's what the motor basically looked like before I began. This was also when the car was still black.

Here's what it looked like just after I removed the intake. No big deal here, but I had to take pictures. :)

Here are the old heads. It's really amazing the car even ran with these nasty things on there.

Here's the stock exhaust manifold that I tossed in the trash. It was replaced with MAC 1 5/8" unequal length shorty headers. The heads (ported E7s) are 1 5/8" ported on the exhaust side, so it's a great fit. Also, they weigh about 5 lbs each vs the 25 lbs or so each that the cast manifold weighs, which was massively restrictive, too.

Maybe there was an occasional miss on #5. What do you think? :)

Another pic of #5 (and #6).

Pretty gross.

Surprisingly, #1 - #4 were relatively clean. I still cleaned them up anyway.

Here the pistons are about half-way through their cleaning. I didn't take any pics when I was done cleaning because my camera batteries were dead, and I wanted to continue.

Here I am, wrenching away at something (I think it was the headers).

Here's Nik, tightening the headers.

New heads and headers installed!

Rockers and pushrods installed!

Valve covers installed!

Here's the motor up to the carb. All it needs is the air cleaner...

Here it is, complete with air cleaner.

Here's the "Before" picture one more time.
