Alright, need to pick the HVAC knowledgeable's brains for a second. I'm in a third (top) floor apartment built in the early '80s and well summer is coming (tomorrow apparently at 97 degrees). I'm not sure how well my A/C is working as it's been on (running) for almost an hour now and the temperature in the middle of the apartment has actually risen a couple degrees. Additionally, it's barely coming out any cooler in the living room than ambient air temperature. I'm used to the apartment being warm in the summers here but don't think my A/C is working effectively. Basically I need to know if this means I need to gear up for a fight with my leasing office about getting it repaired or fixed or not. Thoughts?
That thing is not working if your hand doesn't nearly get numb holding it in front of the output vent for 5 minutes. Definitely time for a refresh or replacement.
The HVAC guys can answer this but if the air coming out of the vent is not 15-20F degrees cooler than ambient room temperature then something is wrong.
It's like 5-10 maybe. Fffffff, record highs today, in fact I've sat outside all night because its still I'm the 70s.
You're feeling the weather that just went through here. Hot and dry. Take comfort in knowing that nice 80's degree weather is on it's way to you right behind that. It'll be there in a day or so.
...the other day even my A/C had a hard time trying to cool down my house. I was gone all morning because I went shooting and when I got home the outside temp was 107* and the inside temp was 89*(turn off A/C when im not home)..it took a while for the house to drop below 80*.
Guy came and "tweaked the freon". We'll see how well it works, not even noon and it's already 93 out. ALSO, 86mcss you down for seeing DJsoulriot on Thursday still?
i go back to work tomorrow and will be in long beach for 7 days. my schedule is from 11am to 12pm everyday. so unless your in long beach and want to get breakfast i wont be able to hang out. how long are you in socal for? ill be back off work on the 18th
You should have a 20° temp difference from the supply and the return, if you have this, you A/C is not sized properly and it's not keeping up. If you don't have a 20° temp difference, somethings wrong and you're low on refrigerant. refrigerant doesn't just disappear, if it's low, you have a leak. the guy who came out and juiced you up, just put a bandaid on it.
Suck, I'll be there Thursday & Friday then driving the Penske to CO over the weekend. Unfortunately my flight doesn't get in until 1030 on Thursday and have to pick up brother Friday morning. That's what I was thinking as it's been "ok" so far today. I've suspected the A/C isn't properly sized as a) it's tiny even for my 800 sq ft unit and b) it looks as old as the building. So, going to give it a day then bitch again. Already on a first name basis so...
That shit busted, shit outta freon Otherwise... Miller, what is apartment/house AC supposed to have for pressure on high side? Low side? If this doesn't work like vehicle A/C and there isn't a "feed" and "return" side then nevermind and I need to figure out how house A/C operates :[
They've twice now told me it's fine. I've seen them haul off other air conditioners but mine remains. However, I did read a 20 degree drop over the coils from the inlet is normal, being that mine is outside, I suppose it is working by that definition. Also, woke up from my nap to a water spot forming on my ceiling. Guy just said the roofers would be here Monday and they'd paint it over when the roofers were done checking for leaks. Still can't complain since this place is affordable.
