Luckily nobody has ever gotten my tools, but I make sure they're locked up securely. I know many people on the other hand who have not been so lucky. Seriously, tools are fucking expensive, and when you steal somebody's tools (who use them to make a living), you're pretty much directly taking food out of their, or their kids/family's mouths. It's a real shithead move.
With all the meth heads around these parts, having stuff, especially tools, stolen is always a big risk.
well i finally bought my first tool chest.. definitely nice to have, still paranoid sometimes good thing i didn't have super expensive tools, i spent maybe 4-500$ replacing them though which still sucks, then had to buy the chest, tool liner, etc i know a guy who had about 20k in tools stolen, pretty sure it was an inside job though cause his whole chest got towed out of his shop
and my wife thinks i am paranoid when i tell her to make sure to keep our garage door closed at all times unless needed. i don't need thief's seeing what is inside my garage. i have a good amount of tools I have been amassing since i was 18...i wouldn't be able to replace them if they were to be stolen.
Just tell her that garages are the primary entry point for home invasions. It's the main drawback to having an attached garage.
When my family lived in Van Nuys, twenty something years ago, a pair of vatos tried to rip off our garage door with a pickup and a chain in the middle of the night. The LAPD response time was pretty impressive, though I still wonder why my folks didn't get a gun then. However, we moved fairly shortly after that.
