It's a highly tuned Toyota engine with around 189 HP? That and being 2,000 pounds makes it a quick bitch.

tex, it sounds like you've got a lot of options and need to test drive a lot of cars. :D

I would definitely test a Boxster S out if that's a car you're considering... used they're a ton of car for the money ($20k gets a nice ~60k mile Boxster S), very high quality build, and a lot of fun to drive. NSXs in that price range would be pretty old. Maintenance would be higher on a Boxster S than some of the cars Sims mentioned. S2000s are nice, and quite a bit cheaper ($15k gets you a pretty nice one here) but I think it's a lot less car.

M3, CTS-V, etc... are all completely different than the Elise, Boxster, S2000, and so-on. I can't imagine all of those cars fit what you need/want, so you should definitely test a lot of options.

Everyone says they want an Elise until they have to drive it every day. There's a reason they're for sale so cheap, NOBODY WANTS THEM AFTER A WEEK.

I have a feeling you have NO idea what kind of car you want. Instead of speculating online, go test drive for god's sake.

If I wanted a fun, luxurious/comfy sports car with decent power and some class... I'd get a Boxster S obviously. S2000 and Elise are none of those things.

It's a slightly tuned version of the Celica GT-S motor. You'll find them typically around 14s in the 1/4 which is along the lines of an MR2 turbo, S2000, Boxster S...

Get off the Elise wagon, I know they're great cars but it's a toy car not a daily driver. :D

as mentioned its a slightly tweaked 2ZZ engine, which was aviable in alot of toyota's including the celica, matrix and corolla.

I'm not knocking the elise, or the motor for that matter, its a well built peppy motor(I still think they should have stuck a K20 in) but my point is that theirs nothing exciting about it, its quick reving and matches up well with a light nimble car.

Go rev a corolla, and then go rev an V8 M3, tell me which one excites you more.

Yeah, as much as I like them; 4 cylinders don't get my testies purring

If Lotus had gone with Honda as the engine supplier (never gonna happen since Toyota & Lotus are well established together), a K20A Elise would have been unbelievable.

    In fact...

i just think the elise is sexy. sexy enough that i'd live with it.

i was originally leaning towards CTS, but i am having a hard time finding a 3.6L manual that isn't an ugly color (maroon) or in shit shape

s2000s that i've seen are expensive around here. same with CTS-V

not a huge fan of 3series bmws. i went to a prep high school, so i just have a negative image of them being driven by ball-sucking want-to-be-frat-boys. I also have a friend who had a decked out 5 series. if i was going bmw, i would get a 540i sport no question. but with those i haven't found many that are both cheap and in good condition

I'd step into an elise before you say that :p

I don't think I could live with having one as my only car(assuming I had the climate to) and I will put up with a alot in the name of performance which I greatly favor over luxury.

its a go-cart with windows(not even power windows, its far from luxurious in any way)

the M3 is not a normal 3 series and the M5 is not a normal 5 series :p they are monsters disguised as gentlemen. Please, go drive one. bias or not, in my mind its a perfect car for what your looking for, that or maybe an AMG benz of some sort or an S4, all extremely luxury, technologically advanced cars with alllllll the muscle to back them up.

if you had an M3/M5, I'd sleep with you. thats gotta count for something!

don't get a CTS-V, yes its quick, but its like the Neon SRT-4 of luxury cars :p

im surprised about the S2000, they are very pricy in canada (because their fucking 15 grand+ more new here ) but when I look on ebay, they seem pretty damn cheap in the states. I <3 the s2000, i'm considering one once I get down with the GT-Four. its not much in terms of luxuries though.

you just can't get a 4 banger to sound that great. the right turbo can get a pretty mean sound of of em, but even then.

the Europeans know how to make a car sound like sex.

years ago, before this gen of elise was legal in NA there was a company, I believe called sun international that sold the previous elise but with an B18C(JDM integra type R) motor.

as I've said before in all the other threads: don't get an S2000.

yes it's a fun car (well the ap1 is), and yes it handles liek a dream and has the best manual I've ever driven...but that smile of yours will fade about a year into it.

when the interior noise, and lack of trunk/glovebox finally get to you. Or you are tired of being passed by Cobalt SS's, or other "lesser" cars everywhere you go (strip OR track).

It's okay, I'll just mod it...make it quicker! Hah. lets see 200 bucks for a CAI, 800 bucks for a cat back (T1R 70mm with test pipe...mmmmmmm)

Wait. what do you mean I bought the best stuff, and I only gained 8hp? Okay supercharger time. 3K is tough to swallow, but hey it's 300hp to the wheels.

Wwait, what? it's centrifugul so it only builds max boost for about 1000k RPMS? what about the other 8000k?

    here's an example:

eh long story short: I owned one, loved it for a while, but I cannot recommend it. they kinda make you bitter after a while. lol

ya, thats one thing you have to come to terms with if yuo have an S2000, its never going to be a really quick car, even if you dump a decent amount of coin into it. sure you can make anything quick with enough money but my Celica can easily run with an S2000 as it sits right now, and my car still has a huge amount of potential in the power department

<3 boost, and big heavy iron motors built for it :D

that said, and S2k is about the driving exp. its def. the wrong car for someone who wants quick time slips.

oh I agree, and the driving experience is great, at first. Nothing beats the snick snick snick of the 6-speed, with it's super short throws and metallic precision, as you wind the engine up to 9200 RPM with the wind blowing through your hair as you carve corners.

That is, until you get passed by a damn cobalt ;) or have to buy tires, or have to carry pretty much anything. but like I said, it IS fun :)

fuck you guys, even said cobalt ss would be "performance" to me. I drive a gargantuan SUV right now.

i meant performance in the sense of...not an accord or something
moderately quick. and i'd prefer good handling to straight line performance.

Have you considered a used 2006 Pontiac GTO? I have had mine for 2 years now, without any major problems. After spending some money on rims and tires, she looked great and drives excellent. 400hp/400ft*lbs stock, and it is extremely comfortable as a daily driver. I have driven mine on many 12+ hour trips, without any discomfort. And you can pick one up for less than $16k in good shape nowadays. Drop another $5k into engine mods, and you would have a beast of a daily driver. Trust me. I have about that wrapped up in my entire list of car mods, and couldn't be happier.

if you lived somewhere with snow I would say get an S4, but since you don't, I still think you should find a M5.

you like the 540I right? the E39 M5 is the same car, but better in every single fashion, with a 400HP 7000 RPM redline V8, and you won't have a problem finding it in manual because it only comes in 6 speed :)

just get a radar detector maybe :p

98+ Prelude VTEC. Good styling, comfort, 200HP, good suspension and some usable space. A little on the heavy side (around 3000) but the creature comforts and power make up for it and it's still a pretty nimble car. Decent brakes too.

Did you save those other pictures? That car is like brand new. Very cool man. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it. :D

First mod I'd do: remove front license plate. :)
Later: Replace side and front amber lights with clear.

I demand better pictures then that!

Agreed on the lights, with a car like that I wouldn't do a whole lot, Wheels and tires are a must on any car IMO, plus I'd do an exhaust because porsches sound sexy.
