So I've ordered some speakers for my jeep, and I need help deciding on an amp. The speakers I ordered are Polk mm5251 components (rms 15-90w @ 3ohms, peak 200w) for the front and Polk mm651 coaxials (rms 15-100w @ 3 ohms, peak 200w) for the sound bar. Does anyone have experience with these speakers? Reading around, it looks like the 651's at least, can handle quite a bit more power than the RMS rating states, but I'm not sure about the 5251. So I'm completely lost on what amp to get. I know I'd like class D, and the smaller footprint, the better, because it's going inside the dash of my TJ. I'd like to stay below $250. Was considering the RF R400-4d or the RF R600-4d, or perhaps the Polk D4000.4. I'm just worried that it might be too much power. Of course, it should be fine, as long as I don't push the gain too far, right?
i was planning on getting mm651's actually, i have a hertz amp waiting for me.. are you planning to run rear and front? and coaxials for all of them? whats your headunit?
The 5251 are 5.25 components for the front, and the 651 will go in my sound bar. I picked up a JVC Arsenal KD-A735BT from crutch field on black Friday for 80 bucks.the features on this thing for that kind of price is amazing.
what are you aiming for, quality or loudness? the headunit isn't bad seeing how it has 3 preouts and a ton of features so good job on that not sure how a soundbar works exactly, but i saw some pics.. does it come stock or is it aftermarket? did you already run the wires? are you doing anything for your lows? powered sub perhaps? or are you going to use different filters/xovers per speaker? perhaps soundbar for bass? also any particular reason why your running 3 ohms?
The sound bar is stock, wires are already run. Its basically a plastic bar that runs from side to side with 2 holes for 6.5 speakers. Mostly focused on loudness, since the jeep is really too noisy to worry much about fidelity, althoufjt I'd like it to sound good (hence spending the extra for the mm series. The front components are really too small to give very good mid range, but they'll fill in nicely enough. Most of my midrange will come from the 651 in the soundbar. I'll use the stock mm x-over on those. The head unit has built in low/mid/high x-over. For bass I'm pulling the back seat out, and I'll be building a billfitzmaurice auto tuba. Should rock out pretty hard.
never heard of the auto tube, but it looks pretty legit..(most jeep guys i know either do a custom like you or a basslink) honestly i don't know if the amps you listed will fit in your dash the only decent amp that i can think of that is tiny and is a class D is arc audio mini amps.. those are pretty good, but pretty damn expensive honestly any 4 channel with 75watts rms @ 4 ohms should be good enough imo for your polks (like the R400-4d)i heard the rockford is a little weak though having extra power isn't bad but if i were you i'd try to get an alpine pdx-4.150 i think that may be the perfect amp for you http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alpine-PDX-...0945337?pt=Car_Amplifiers&hash=item3f1f78ba39 the alpine will push 150 watts rms @ 4ohms constantly so your speakers will be plenty loud, even at lower volumes i mean i heard your polks powered by an alpine power pack and they sounded good.. and it was in a s2000 convertible also i still don't know why your running them at 3 ohms though.. i'd just run em at 4 to keep it simple, or 2 ohms if you really want the power but keep in mind that polk MM's are real sensitive, so make sure you adjust your gains properly and tune em to your best liking the polk amp isn't bad either btw, but i've heard the polk and the alpine side by side, their both fine but the polk distorts a little more
I have the bill fitzmaurice tubaHT in my living room and its amaxing the amount of sound it puts out. The auto tuba will thump. Thinking of the rockfpr fosgate t400. The alpine might be too much power. ~200w RMS output is double the speaker rms The speakers run at 3 ohms because that's how they're designed lol
what!!!! i didn't know those speakers ran at 2.7.. i thought it was 4 ohms the whole time lmao, but the good thing about the lower ohm rating is your speakers will play louder and you will def get more midbass.. well now you have to make sure that the amp is stable @ 2ohms the RF t400 is a class a/b and the RF R400-4d is a class d but since its stable @ 2 ohms pushing 100w rms, they should be probably perfect for your speakers and PLENTY loud enough the t400 might run a little hotter, but qualitywise it might actually be better.. class d amps were actually used only for bass until recently ~edit btw make sure you dampen your stuff well, your music will sound much better, and the bass will hit alot harder!
