Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Whos playing with it (fukapple)

wondering whos got it running, and/or past builds.
anything good to say about it? people seem to be having a hard time finding the start menu and how to shutdown/restart. lol

This will be one upgrade I will delay until the last possible minute. I'm sorry, but I don't like the interface of Windows Phone, and I'm not a big fan of what I've seen of the XBox360 dashboard, and now trying to shove it down PC users throats...we are microsoft....rawr.

I have to admit, I dig it. The new task manager is nice, the add/remove programs straight from the start screen, etc. I'm looking forward to it.

Hell, maybe I'll download and install it on my netbook right now. I'm playing with Linux Mint at the moment, plenty of hard drive space on there for another OS.

It seems like there's a trend towards disguising the mechanics of operating systems more and more with each new version. There's something satisfying (reassuring even) about an OS that reflects the underlying nature of the components and software that makes up the computer. You click around, icon to icon, and there's an intuitive sense about what you're doing. In your mind you can trace the path from your commands to the resulting action. This really helps when it comes to performing rare or first time tasks. Without having an exact knowledge of the steps you need to it, you can reason you way through it quite easily.

I look at Windows 8 and I see a deliberately austere interface that, while snazzy, is too much about achieving a uniform look. I don't have an intuitive sense about what's hardware and what's software. What's online and what's local. It just seems less tangible somehow. :-\

I dont like how they got rid of the start menu. Are they ever gonna do anything to make it run better or just add snazzy new features that no one really cares about? I may finally move the switch to an apple product, i'm really not looking forward to where ms is going with the new "start menu"

Now MS is moving towards the IPUI (Idiot Proof User Interface). I feel your pain.

I don't get why the big-wigs think our PC's need to run like mobile devices. I have a mobile device. I'd like my PC to be a PC thank-you-very-much.

I still run the non-gay version of OSX (OSX Snow Leopard) as my main partition. I have Lion (kind of like this new Windows 8 for the rest of you guys) but almost never boot into it. It's there for one program. Avid Media Composer. That's it.

I like Windows 7. I don't get the GUI change. I thought Windows 7 was pretty slick and very stable. Who knows what kool-aid these guys are drinking...

Two things: 1) If the current trends continue we'll all be using tablets almost exclusively within a decade. Windows 8 is just a reflection of that reality. And 2) you'll be able tweak the display to taste. "Classic mode" or whatever. More choice = good.

I wasn't looking forward to windows 8 from all the pictures I saw, but that video makes it seem pretty decent. I rarely use my start button on Windows 7. I have a widget that holds all of my apps and games in a nice hidden array of icons. The new start screen, if it can be customized, may replace the widget.

I liked the file system in XP, all the crap they did with libraries was uncalled for IMHO. That and I'm getting old. You know us old fogies don't like change.

I just thought of something. With artificial intelligence really starting to take off, along with powerful tablet computers, I can finally have my Dr. Theopolis! I'll wear an iPad around my neck like Flav O Flav, and Siri can answer all my questions.

What they should do is have the kinect available for windows 8, that would be a lot sweeter
