Heads up on people who want to image or clone a Windows 7 install over to a SSD:

From an amazing SSD megathread on something awful:

I just installed mine =] and I'm pretty glad I didn't keep all of my old junk. It's backed up on my tb n e way. I like it so far, but everything looks a little retarded, like big or something. I'm not sure, but something just isn't the way I want it...

Probably my fault. I'll have to change something.

You can make those icons on the taskbar smaller, if that's what you mean.

Vista drivers should work for Windows 7. Did you try it?

So, the new taskbar is annoying me a little. I have to admit, I like the functionality of the quick launch bar more than I do the new "superbar". When I launch an application, the app window takes the place of icon in the taskbar. While this is somewhat cool and helps consolidate taskbar space, I find it very annoying, especially when the application is at the beginning or middle of the taskbar. Look at the screenshot below for an application. It becomes a huge cluster-f when I have apps opened and just become a huge cluster. Take the screenshot below as an example. I have IE, diffmerge, excel and firefox open. It serves for too much confusion with them being scattered in with the rest of the un-opened taskbar icons (pidgin, outlook, filezilla, etc.). Any ideas how to change this to act more like the old quick launch, where the apps would ALL just open to the right of it?

I took all of the shit off my big icon-bar, whatever it's called, and got rid of quick launch, so it's just like it would be on older Windows OSes. 7 is pretty good overall, kind of pissed that my laptop didn't come with the install CD though. :\

I have my settings differently. In this pic I have Google Chrome open, and my Vent server. No text, no large icons.

You can do this by Right Clicking the taskbar -> Properties. Now put a checkmark next to Use Small Icons, and then on the Taskbar buttons: popdown menu, select "Always combine, hide labels"

I ended up finding a way to recreate the old style quick launch bar. Thank god. If anyone's interested, here are the instructions:

A quick note for anyone installing on a system with 2 DVI monitors: if you get a blank screen after it reboots into what should be the "Completing installation" phase, unplug one of the monitors or it'll just sit there doing nothing. I don't know why it can't handle having both of them plugged in but that's the only way I managed to finish the installation process. And it happens with both the x86 and x64 versions.

Does the upgrade CD ask you for your Windows Vista disc during the fresh install?
