Tim Sneath : The Bumper List of Windows 7 Secrets

This article was published during the beta, but I just verified and they all still work except the Win+X shortcut.

Also for copying the install CD to a USB drive I used robocopy instead of xcopy:
    robocopy <CD Drive> <USB Drive> *.* /MIR /V

    i.e. robocopy f: i: *.* /MIR /V
...where f is my CD drive and i is my USB drive. The install is stupid fast from a USB drive. I did 3 full fresh installs in an hour.

Thanks, I've been meaning to put the install on my flash drives. Will do this when I get home.

I second the usb install. I did one on my gf's laptop a few days ago and it was super fast. Gonna do my mini 9 next with a vlite version.

Funny I just erased my Win7 install to get OSx86 up and running on my pc. I'll be installing Win7 again, just haven't messed with it yet.

Oh man, I can't wait to start using Windows 7 but I think I am going to wait till I can get the new intel 80gb ssd drive in a few months for $150 and install it on that. Still debating that though.

Win7 is great. No reason not to use it now. It isn't like you couldn't run it and play with it for a bit, and do a fresh install when you get the SSD. The other option is just image your install and when you get the new drive, swap it over.

Same here, but I'm too lazy and I've been on the RC since release. Meh, I'll do it later.

this day and age there not much tweakin left to do with these operating systems except making personal adjustments here and there..

as fast as computers are these days, and efficient as windows has gotten.. tweak guides are dead.. but tweak3d will forever live ON!

I installed it last night, took less than an hour and after the final reboot WoW worked perfectly. Didn't need drivers for anything but sound. I am going to update all the drivers to ensure there aren't any issues.

First time i purchased a Window OS; Window 7. I was going through its firewall. The outbound connections are open...

How are you guys controlling outbound. Do you make new rules and stuff. I just installed windows 7 firewall control. It prompts for any outbound.

Solid state means no moving parts. A HDD has to spin up to a certain speed before it can be read/written to. A SSD is like writing/reading from RAM.

Solid state is the future of storage, no doubt about that. Moving parts - teh suck.

Eh, 7 seems good and all, but honestly, these days all I use my computer for is playing MP3s, browsing the web, typing papers (until I'm done with school!) and an IM from time to time.

7 won't change any of these things, so I'll upgrade my OS when I finally upgrade my computer one day....

    AthlonXP 2400, 1GB RAM, Radion 9000 for lyfe! :p

Hard drives just store the data. All of the configuration headaches come from swapping motherboards or other major system components.

You can use this for other windows OS's but

    Shutdown Timer

    Start>Run>CMD

    Shutdown.exe -s -t x

    x= time in seconds

    1 Hour 3600
    3 Hours 10800
    5 Hours 18000
    8 Hours 28800

has anyone done a full reformat/install with an upgrade cd yet?

    solid isnt the future unfortunately.
theyve already predicted it'll max out around 2013 or 2020, cant remember.

thats why theres been alot of storage tech concepts in the news lately.
