this question is geared towards more of the IT or field tech people on here. I want to get a bag that will fit my laptop, all my small computer tools, and other extra stuff that you might not when out on a tech job. i currently don't use anything and just pile it in the back of my truck but that's obviously not ideal.

That's a pretty vague question. Just get yourself a good quality laptop case/messenger bag. I guess a duffel (sp?) bag if you need to haul around heavier stuff like cables and CD cases.

I have an extra deep laptop case with different compartments. It holds my tools,( which isnt much larger than a dvd case annd have their own zippered case) 2 laptops, (typically only carry one at a time) ethernet cable,cd's, power supplies, etc ...and make up bag. Oh and sometimes I'll toss in a change of clothes. I hate, and I repeat HATE carrying more than one bag. So..it doubles as a purse for me. I've used backbacks and messenger bags in the past, I like this better. Its about 4" deep. had it forever.

i know it's a vague question, that's why I asked lol. I didn't know if any of you all in the biz have found some special bag or something.

succubus, do you know the brand or whatnot that you got?

i may look at targas bags. they have made some good stuff in the past.

For college i used a large UK Army backpack which I used to carry my laptop along with all my textbooks and notebooks. I had bought it used off a military surplus website.

Before that I had a smaller laptop backpack I had purchased through newegg.com.

    ethernet cable
    usb cable for pc-cellphone connection/modem
    cdr with latest antivirus/antispyware shit
    cdr with bootcd testing apps
    usb drive with more apps

and thats it.. if the computer is too fucked or needs hardware upgrades i take it back home with me.
so i dont need a bag or anything

although i am considering throwing into my trunk my computer parts box, which is filled to the brim with misc computer parts.

You want a roller bag, to carry a full compliment of tools and a laptop, etc. Me personally I just use a regular leather laptop bag, and just carry basic tools and a small binder of discs.

This thread just about covers it: http://tweak3d.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6856

I have a Targus laptop backpack and I love it. Has 3 separate compartments, one dedicated for up to a 17" laptop (extra padding, lock in velcro strap to prevent it from sliding around, etc.). Depending on the job, I'll fill up the other compartments with books, smaller switches, CDs, toolkits, etc.

Here is the specific one I have - http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.aspx?sku=TCG216US

What about a regular backpack? I don't carry around computers or parts but I see that being a pretty good way of carrying around your stuffs and whatever else you might want to take with you on your outings....
