We finished the XJ rear leaf conversion in my friends TJ and I also welded up a cage in my other friends rubicon. The local jeep club went out and we had a sorta shakedown run. See all the pics here tdjvolks/FEB 11th - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Heres my friends jeep: This is the rubicon: Flop: Carnige: An idea of how deep the hole is, my friend is 6ft
ahhh, too many jeeps my eyes hurt! their drivehafts are made from the same tube as thei tie rods: uncooked spaghetti. looks fun
See if you can catch a ride with someone sometime. If you come down to the orlando area, ill give you a ride and you'll see.
Wheeling is fun... but it seemed kinda easy. I don't do it a lot but I have keys to a friends grand cherokee and it's got the works. Not that I know a lot about jeep parts but it's on 39's, lifted, lockers, wench, and such. I'm sure, like every sport, there are easy and difficult aspects to it. My forte is speed so wheeling doesn't really do it for me after awhile. I'd much rather be worrying around late braking and entering a turn on the wrong line than snapping parts and having to wench myself out of a mudpit. Wheeling seems like its crazy expensive but I guess it helps when you're using a non-daily driver shitty vehicle as a platform. But then again I just race around a silly rice burner so what would I know?
Yeah, I can get some. He's coming back from WVU tomorrow so I'm sure I'll be going over to his place. He gave me a key to it years ago to drive for him when he's away at school. The fuel pump is broken so I havn't been able to take it out for awhile. The thing is fucking huge compared to my little car.
last time i went wheeling i broke my steering box in half(see other thread) on a trail called clawhammer, its 2 miles of 4 foot boulders and 6+ foot ledges and it took 8 hours, very technical
What do you do when you break something critical - like a steering box or a water pump etc - half way through?
Some thing I'd like to get into. As a kid my grandfather built an old willys. It was neat just being offroad, the things you do are mind boggling.
I've never gotten that deep into it, mostly offroading. Integra.....if it's something that has to be explained, you'd not understand. Being outdoors, conquering shit, and tearing stuff up....that's what fun is all about. I used to get into spots like that following dry creekbeds....I cheated and used the PTO winch as there were alot of trees to snatch off of.
