Want to add wireless N to my network

    Currently I have (2) linksys ddrwt wireless routers. one in my basement setup as a router/access point, the other in my workshop setup as just an access point. both routers are 802.11b/g

    I would like to add wireless n capability to my network as both my phone and tablet have 802.11n capability. Do I need to replace my my router and access point, or could I simply plug a wireless N access point into my switch and fly with it? would the phone/tab automatically run at N speeds?

    Any suggestions on equipment?

    You'll have N speed off your access point. The phone and tab should automatically switch over to N, if not set the AP to only broadcast the N frequencies. Also, you're only going to see a boost in speeds intra-network as the interwebs aren't at super giga-jigga-watt N speeds yet.

    Sweet ill give that a try. I'm currently seeing a 35% - 50% drop in internet speed over the wireless G as opposed to my desktop running cat6 gigabite. Hoping the N will improve my speeds.

    Any recommendations on an AP? i'd like to be able to stick DDWRT on it.

    I have a Netgear WNDR3700 V2 and it has issues with DD WRT dropping wireless, the stock is pretty solid though.

    e3000 is good, has dual band wireless, dd-wrt support, and a usb port for a printer/harddrive. You have to make sure your phone and tablet are 5ghz N otherwise you wont get N speeds

    i got the wnr2000v2 netgear, just modded it with ddwrt last night, gained 3 bars on my phone and N gadgets.
    the stock firmware is trash, but reliable even with using torrents.

    i would just buy a whole new wireless n router, most are cheap now.
    keep the b/g router locally for your old devices, and run a new wireless N router with N only set for your new gadgets. that way you wont have to mix and worry about speed drops, etc etc

    Well if I had to spend 150 moon moneys on a fancy box with blinking lights I'd want to know if my cat videos were going to load any faster!
