and if there isnt and app for linux, use wine to emulate the windows app. as for kubuntu or ubuntu, do you want kde or gnome?
i gave up on ubuntu, been fucking with it all night and morning. thanks guys, i might give it another try some other day. i was pissed because i had it running with the latest firefox, did all kinds of tweaks, installed apps, and then noticed i cant read or write to my ntfs partitions. I install NTFS-FUSE but i read around how it can still cause problems with your ntfs drives and i dont wanna take a risk. So if anyone had any ideas of what can be done next time, let me know because ubuntu was definately soooo close to letting me go of windows
i was thinking about doing that... but. i have this indulgence to stick with ntfs no matter what the upside to fat32 and linux is..
i can read my ntfs partitions just fine from ubuntu. havnt tried writing ye, nor do i need to. i just throw everything onto my fileserver from ubuntu if need be.
You should be able to read off an NTFS partition just fine without messing anything up. I have never wrote to an NTFS partition but can't you compile NTFS write support into the kernel?
The point is that NTFS write support exists, but isn't guaranteed not to screw up and trash a bunch of your files. If you really need to share partitions with read/write access, FAT32 is the way to go.
yea, you can read but writing is still unstable. not worth the risk. until then. no linux for me. its a shame.
200gigs of mp3s, just to convert to fat32. no thanks, i'll wait until everything is stable. oh, i will goto the darkside eventually, i love fucking with linux.
You will still be able to read the 200 gigs of MP3's from linux. You don't have to write to anything to be able to listen.
