So a while back I found a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 650R on Craigslist with a blown motor. The guy was asking $1500 and I thought it might be a good investment project if I could pick it up for $1000. I showed a friend of mine on MSN one day and he thought it might be a great gift for his wife who was dying for an upgrade from her current Ninja 500R. We looked at the bike together and I made a mental list of all the parts it would need. I emailed the guy a couple days later with an offer of $1000 but he declined, saying he could sell it for $1500 easily and should have it sold by this weekend. A few weeks had passed and I touched base with him, again offering $1000 cash to come right now and take it away. Again, he declined. A week later, he finally agreed to take $1000 and said he was sick of haggling over $500. We grabbed a trailer, a tow vehicle and picked it up. I ordered about $1000 worth of parts--including a replacement motor with 14,000 miles and started to strip off some parts to get it ready for my mechanic who would swap the motor and change the tires, chain and sprockets. When I got the bike back, I set to cleaning and polishing the plastics and got it buttoned up and ready for a shakedown ride before the reveal The big day came and we told her I was desperate for a ride. She agreed and said she would insure her bike the following day. During the evening, I snuck up to their apartment and waited for my friend to come home from work. We parked the bike their parking stall and I put some bows on it and he drove me home. The next morning, I came over and we all went out for a Sunday ride... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KXDzvjgHlY
I love when people are selling broken vehicles and think that they're worth a million dollars. I've had that before where I was buying cars with blown motors or trannies, "no way man I could get $2000 for it all day, look ones around the same year are selling for $5500"... yeah, $5500 in a lot better shape than yours, taken care of, and fully functional. Your broken shit is only worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it. Of course they decline your offer and wonder why still have their broken shit 3 months later.
this.. but idiots are born every second and i've finally learned my lesson btw dustin, thats a sweet gift.. you guys ride on wet roads? :O or is it just the station?
Yeah, we ride on wet roads. It rains a lot here so you kinda have to at one point or another, even if you're a fair weather rider. I ride year round, including snow and other stupid winter conditions. I don't have a car so I just suck it up. I'd rather be in Cali. Motorcycle heaven
