these piles are for the fire place inside for this winter

and this one is for the fire pit outside for this fall/next spring because it is rotten or to large or long to fit the fire place inside

gotta get the tarps out to cover them now

:( I miss having a wooden fire place. Gas just isn't the same.

If your fireplace is made of wood, it's not going to last long :p

I'll try to dig up pictures of our wood pile when I was a kid, it was ridiculous. We're talking a 6ft tall pile of firewood that probably took up 900 square feet of yard. We'd cut firewood all summer long and had massive piles of the stuff. I don't miss heating my home with firewood at all.

Blue tarps on my deck are ugly, and the 2x4s to hold the tarp down are ghetto, but I just don't have anywhere else to put this wood at the moment. I sure ain't taking up space in my workout room or my shop for it :p

This pile is just a single row deep, essentially it is what didn't fit downstairs in my garage wood storage area. This is actually a different, older load of wood I got and is much more seasoned than the bulk of my wood, so it's being burned first.

That's the oversize pile, won't fit in my wood stove, so it will be burned in the fire pit on the deck at parties and whatnot.

And the crown jewel. All neatly stacked in a near perfect cube :p That is all the doug fir I cut and split in the spring time, and it's still not in perfect burning shape. Late start :( Pile is 4 rows deep, and about 7 feet tall and wide. To the right of the pile against the wall and main wood pile is more wood, just lumber scrap and junk like that to burn.

Being my first round of wood in this place, I have lots of things to tweak, next year will be more organized.

But, I am trying to use ZERO electric heat this winter, save me money, and I just like the charm of wood ;)

My wood could look bigger, if I trimmed the pubes moved the car out of the way :p

I just burned some more of that not-totally-seasoned fir, and it actually does pretty well so long as the stove already has a decent coal bed.

I'll have to get some pix of my winter's supply tomorrow also. it's too dark right now. i just cut split and stacked a weeks worth just now. All told, I have close to 4 cord
    stacked and seasoned.
I do, however, have a picture of a big pile of shit that I'm in the process of spreading.

I'm surprised my next door neighbor didn't join the forums so he could post here. He stacks firewood for fun I think, he moves his piles of wood all the time. The pellet stove I ordered a month ago finally came in yesterday but I'm going to install it tomorrow. I'll post pics of my ton of pellets tomorrow.

950, in your line of work, can't you get enough free firewood to heat Grand Central? lol

True, but it doesn't feel or smell the same :(
I like the nostalgia that the wood burning fire place brings to the table.
