my 'rents got a computer while i was off at college and it has a dvd-burner (good for dvd+r and dvd-r and all the rw's inbetween), the system came with an OEM copy of Nero and uhm...

i, nor my father, can get this OEM Nero to do anything with a dvd other then burn an image onto the harddrive. the burner isn't in the drop down menu. >_>

basically my question is this. wtf.

    in rational questions it's this.

is there any way to tell what 'features' of Nero are disabled in an OEM version? (like say the key feature of being able to burn a DVD)
is there anyway i can bitchslap the computer into burning a DVD for me without buying or downloading new software (rent's don't trust some stuff, don't necessarily want to pay for others)?

supporting facts: windows XP media center edition, gig of ram/pentium D, SATA hdd, TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-H552U according to the hardware properties of the drive. supposedly working properly, reads DVD's fine. trying to burn a simple data dvd with a supported DVD+R 4.7gb dvd. also removing data from a dvd+rw doesn't work either. (we've tried both)

    any ideas?

i'll have to check on that front, i kinda figured it should support the burner regardless as both the burner and the software came OEM. i'll edit in an update check in a bit. first, food prep calls.

edit: according to nero infotool and the nero website everything is up to date. all the versions matched.

    any advice??

anyone? >_> i'm befuddled why the burning software that came with the pc doesn't burn the dvd's (though seemingly capable of) on the dvd burner that came with the pc.

    from nero infotool:

    system ASPI (not installed)
Nero ASPI (installed and working properly).

anyways, i'll see what attempts on the ASPI front turn up when i get the chance.
