Good job man. And you're losing at a reasonable speed. Too fast is bad, and statistically comes right back. Just keep at it, and start thinking about what your maintenance fitness and diet routing will be once you hit your target. Personally I don't like weight goals at all. A more vague (and significant) goal would be "to be active and eat healthy". Slow and steady, a diet and exercise program you'll be on for the rest of your life.

Well...things I want to do by the end of summer right now are:
    1) Run 10km.
    2) Go on a bike tour near my city. Need a bike first...but my friends did one last year and they only did the first day of 55Km (the next day they sat and drank). I want to do at least that much (you can do 75 or 100km as well). :)

I don't have any weight lifting goals because I'm not really into weight lifting, other than for the exercise. I dunno...once I start passing the 20lb dumb bells I've got, move on to 40s I guess. :)

But in terms of my weight: according to everything I've read about my "ideal" weight for my age and height, I will never reach that (I think it's like 200lbs or less). I look at football players my height. They're either 280lbs of muscle, or they're a lean 220lb. My initial goal is 230lbs (and I'm only 6lbs from that mark). If I keep it up and keep focused, like I am right now, my secondary goal is 220lbs. I mean shit...if I lose 16lbs in a month and a bit, what's another 10? Or 20?

Oh...and MSP...thanks for the recommend on the veggie wrap. I made one to go along with my soup for supper last night. Red and green peppers, mushrooms, with a shot of light mayo and some BBQ sauce, with a sprinkle of cheese. Most of it very low calorie, and with my soup...awesome! Definitely do it again in a heartbeat.

Another great trick I've found - ground soy. They sell it in the freezer aisle with the veggie burgers. It's the same meat substitute stuff, and we use it in tacos, Manwich, meatloaf, etc. Pretty much anything you would use ground beef for. Something like 70% less fat., and a lot less calories. Plus it's not too expensive, about the same price as quality ground chuck or sirloin.

Unfortunately, THAT'S where I have to draw the line.

I make regular meals for the rest of the fam, whether it be tacos or burgers or chicken or pork chops or steak or whatever. If I feel the need to indulge, I want to indulge. :)

Last weekend I had a 16oz prime rib at The Keg. Mmmmmm...sooooooo good. And that satisfied my craving for meat for most of the week. However, I find I'm getting a little hungrier now and might indulge in some of the chicken breast tonight in my chicken and rice lemon soup. :)

Saturday can't come quick enough though. I want to put it to the test for eating because it's supposed to be my "free" day.

You should really start changing your family meals to your healthy meal plan, that pork chop and taco shit does nobody any good and I bet the whole family will be happier and healthier with your new style of eating :)

    - stay out of the sauna, dont be a noob and die in there. you're losing water weight anyways, which will be replenished sooner than you think.
    - tapeworm diet
    - swimming. find an indoor pool and swim swim swim, youre burning serious calories, more than running on a treadmill, etc... its an entire body workout, and tones your skin. theres a reason why obese patients go through swimming therapy
    - dont lose weight fast or your skin will get flabby and probably never reduce with the size of your fat lossed arms, stomach, etc.
    - if youre making drastic changes to your diet, or not aware of any nutrient deficiencies, i recommend orange triad as a vitamin, it also has digestive and joint support ingredients.
    - i dont think you should have any cheat days this early on. you need to focus on a strict plan without any "rewards", those "rewards" will come back to bite you in the ass
    - stay off the scale, just work hard, sweat, slowly introduce some weight training, you wanna get rid of the fat and build muscle
    - as a man, you need to cut down weight, it'll increase your libido, testosterone, and maybe give you an extra inch on your dick depending on your fat pad thickness
    - the reason youre not losing weight fast is because your body is programmed to metabolize slowly. it takes time to "Reprogram" your motabolism, its not gonna happen overnight.
    - im not trying to push a supplement agenda, but i recommend a low cal protein shake in replacement of heavy meats, you would rather have good clean protein than a minute amount of protein covered in fat and grease surrounded by hearty fries and a coke, etc etc.
    - consider a small energy supplement to help you in the gym. if you go into the gym like a zombie, dragging ass, youre not gonna put in the work it takes to lose weight. you gotta go in pumped, excited, ready to sweat and enjoy it while youre doing it
    - zumba class, high intensity aerobics, or kinect games. dont think its all for phaggots, its good workout stuff that gives results. i know.
    - if you dont have any heart problems, consider oxyelite pro.
    - dont do too much liquid dieting, its easy on your bowels but its not going to keep your digestive system strong. you need hard solid foods to keep your stomach and digestive track strong, in turn will boost your metabolism and increase fat loss.
    - at home p90x, insanity, etc workouts wont do you much good. too many distractions at home, can easily cut the workout short, etc etc. you need to be with a group of people like a zumba group at a gym, the energy, intensity, and moral support will help you achieve your fat loss.

@Dustin: Two out of my three children will eat anything. Fruits, veggies, fish, any kind of meat, etc.. My oldest, unfortunately, hates veggies and fruits. Trying to turn that around. Also unfortunate is my wife is bad at trying new things, and she is like me: creature comforts.

Regardless, I have been working other things into the diet, like fish, soup twice a week, fresh veggies, etc.. Eventually, at some point, a lot of stuff will be phased out. Ground beef for ground chicken or lean turkey. Pork chops altogether (I used to eat them lots and now I don't, plus my wife hates that as much as she hates steak) will be gone. And I look forward to BBQ season and cooking with other things, like vegetable skewers.

@MSP: I can't leave it up to my kids...otherwise it would be cheesestrings and crackers. LOL

@Torx: Sauna I don't have regular access to and swimming...I want to take the kids more often. I was thinking about getting a monthly family pass to the local facilities (access to the three indoor pools around the city, plus indoor tracks, etc..). To see if it's really worthwhile.

Cheat days for me right now aren't even really cheat days. I still drink coke zero (although a lot more juice than coke zero) and seeing commercials for burgers and crap on the TV, it's a craving that I tell my body "You don't need".

As for protein shakes and what not...meh. I think I'm eating enough good food (veggies and fruits and chicken and fish) that protein isn't really necessary.

For your "group" workout I find it the opposite. I don't want to train with a bunch of other people because I'm not willing to go out. Whereas at home, I do it after the kids are asleep and I have a PVR to record anything I need, so it all works out in the end. OR...I can switch it up to a morning routine and take it easy in the evening. I might get two workouts in 12 hours...but hey...it works well.

One good thing is my wife wants to start doing it with me. Starting sunday, she's going to be my workout buddy for P90X. :) Should be interesting.

The biggest thing I will say is that I'm far more "budget" oriented now because we used to eat out two to three times a weekend because of kids activities. Now, the kids accept going home and having a sandwich, while we will eat a soup or something.

But seriously, give the ground soy a try at least once. Soy milk too, I love the stuff. Been drinking it for 8 years and can't stand regular cow milk anymore.

    Time to bump this thread.

I've now officially lost 13lbs in 3 weeks! 233lbs this morning! I haven't totally stuck with soup, or the soup that I have been eating, I've garnished or followed up with whatever we were having for supper.

Example, last night we ate roast beef, and I had a good workout before supper, so I added a little roast to my vegetable soup. SO GOOD.

But I agree with Torx about the cheating thing. This past Saturday, I went a little nuts with eating, and felt WAY too full all day, where normally I feel hunger gnawing every other day of the week.

I've also stopped weighing myself every day and have gone down to weighing myself every other day, or three days. But it's nice to keep track!

    Update time.

It's been a month and I'm now down to 229! That's 17lbs in a month. And where am I going? LOWER.

    So, at this moment:
-vegetable intake is at an all time high
-water intake is at an all time high
-I still have soup for most lunches, but do make the occasional veggie wrap
-Suppers are a 50/50 right now. I might partake in the actual supper, but almost kid portions of the food. Otherwise it's soup.
-I'm getting my wife started down this path...which is a good thing because she eats terribly. I can say that her Coke intake has dropped considerably, which is good.
-I'm taking multivitamins EVERY day just to make sure I don't miss anything
-I'm also going on to week 6 of P90X, which is probably the longest I've stuck with this program. I can't wait for spring/summer though. Biking, running, outdoor soccer...it's gonna be awesome.

Now that I've been down this path, I don't want to stop. Playing soccer...I'm barely breaking a sweat right now because I keep it short shifts, but it feels good.

One problem though: pants. I bought new pants for work beginning of december, and even after a wash, I'm using the tightest notch on my belt, and they are falling off. WTF?! And same with my jeans, which I DON'T want to go out and buy new everything just yet.

The eating healthier/less is also helping out on my bottom line for money too. It's amazing how much MORE money you have when you're not eating out 3 to 5 meals in a week, plus groceries are a low too, because of the fact that I'm eating better. Veggies are cheap compared to buying a bunch of steak, or ground beef, or pork chops or roast. Chicken, ground turkey, fish...a lot cheaper, and oh so much better.

Yeah...happiness done. Time to go do my Yoga workout that I missed last night. Then tomorrow...back on to weights and crunches for week 5!

    Time for the weekly update.

So...most of my family has been sick and I managed to do a decent job fighting it off. Unfortunately, I succumbed and my workout train fell off the tracks for a few days. As a result, for some reason when I'm sick, I want to eat. :) I ate so bad this weekend, but regardless...my weight only got up to 231, despite eating some delectable turkey burgers, pizza, lasagna, for suppers. Which isn't too bad, considering that after my last post, I actually recorded an all time low of 227.8.

I'm feeling better now. Start 6th week of P90X yesterday, and going to continue on with it. Could be my second last week of playing soccer before the break between indoor and outdoor season.

Oh...and signed up for a team for a bike tour. Non-competitive, 2-day event in August. Raising money to battle Multiple Sclerosis. Quite stoked. I just need a bike now, and the weather to get better so I can go biking. I already have a route figured out for training to start off with...which should get me 20km to start off with. The first day of the tour you can choose to do 55, 75, or 100km. I'm shooting for 75km. Second day is 55km. I'm shooting for the first day of 75km. :D The night will be for drinking and the next morning for sleeping it off. LOL

That's all for now. Need to go home, do supper, do shopping, put the kids to bed, and workout. :)

I'd like to think it did. I also put a humidifier into my room, and doused myself with some medication just for a day, and it did wonders.

So eating healthier could have been a contributing factor. My wife was sick for 2 weeks, and she snacks on candy here and there, drinks coke, misses meals, etc..

At the onset of possible virus, I start cramming down the legumes and drink echinacea tea. I used to go down for a min 5 days with flu and severe cold, now it's only one, maybe two.
It's the zink in those foods that inhibit viral replication.

It's been over a week since I've updated. But here we go:

223.6LBS! Less than 4lbs away from my initial weight goal!

I've been staying true to my breakfasts and lunches most days (fruit and/or yogurt for breakfast; soup or a wrap for lunch). Supper is usually dependant on the day I've had. But soup is a regular supper meal now for the family (2-3 times a week) and my kids for the most part love it.

6 weeks now doing P90X, plus playing soccer. Now, getting a bike this week, and I plan on starting out a couple times a week, in the morning, biking, and see if I can make 3 to 4 times a week.

And it's only the middle of march. Wow...it's been awesome.

But what's also funny is that people notice. My sister-in-law, at church the other day, didn't recognize me at first when she turned around. My pastor was like "Whoa". Guys on my soccer team are noticing. The "fat" in my face is gone, and in my arms. Guess that means the arms are toning too. :) It's going good.

I do need to take a supplement for iron though. Now that I've stopped eating red meat, and keeping track with MyFitnessPal for calories and nutrients, that's the low point in my diet. I seem to be doing pretty good everywhere else. So I either need to find some stuff a little more iron rich, or start taking a vitamin for it.

    Other than that....things are good!

    DONE! 220LBS THIS MORNING BABY!

After two weeks of having some weekend setbacks, I finally did it. 220lbs. Wow...it feels good to finally accomplish my goal.

Last week, my P90X was doing a lot of cardio, so I was getting up at 5am to do a lesser cardio workout, and then doing my major cardio workout, and I was actually under 220, but it didn't FEEL like 220. By the weekend, I was back at 224.

This week though, I started at 224, ate right (soups and salads; ate spaghetti and lean chicken meatballs last night), and decided to get up this morning. Bam...actual 220.

NOW...to maintain that. I just wish the weather would stay nicer consistently so that I can go out and bike dang it. Got a nice bike sitting here, collecting dust in my basement!

I went for a couple of quick rides just after I bought it. Since then, it's been way too cold, rainy...blah weather. And I'm either shooting to go first thing in the morning when I wake up (too cold) or right after I get home from work (rainy, gross weather lately).

It's supposed to be decent after this weekend, but we'll see how that goes.

    I'm about 6-foot-4.

I was thinking that myself the last couple of weeks. I was having problems breaking that barrier. But then again, I had a couple of rough weekends of eating kind of crazy.

I'm back on track, see where I am in another month. It might be the same, it might be lower. But time will tell.
