Sata 3gb/6gb motherboard/device woes. (halp)

    my msi p67-gd65 has 8 sata ports. 4 3gb/4 6gb.

    i got 2 dvd drives, 1 ssd, and 5 hdds.
    i really dont feel like pulling everything apart and inspecting hdds, but some are 6gb, and some are 3gb.

    problem is.. when i plug my sata dvd drives into the 6gb ports, they arent recognized. i have to plug them into the 3gb sata ports on the mobo.
    and i have some hdds that are 3gb and 6gb, and when plugged into the 3g ports they arent recognized and of course dont show in my computer.

    i thought 6gb was backwarad compatible?
    wtf. is it my sata cables? or a setting in bios? wtf mates. all this time i thought my hdds were dead, turns out they just havent been recognized due to gb incompatibility,

    Likely some BIOS setting. Set to 6GB only or something, you might have to fiddle with the various SATA modes.

    All SATA is backwards and forwards compatible, its in the SATA spec. Now, I can't say much about the marvel controller because those are nowhere near as well validated as the Intel controller providing 2x 6GB/s ports and 4x 3GB/s ports on the P67 platform.

    That being said are you plugging your drives into the 2x Marvel 6GB ports or the 2x Intel 6GB ports? Honestly just disable the Marvel controller unless you need those extra ports and plug all your shit into the Intel controller.

    okay, i fixed it.

    in the bios i enabled AHCI in the marvell external sata setting. it was set to disable.
    but now enabling that adds an extra 3-4 seconds on bootup times. the other option is IDE for that setting. i enabled AHCI because i have that set for my sata drives originally for speed performance.

    also installed the marvell 91xx driver.

    Do you HAVE to have 2 dvd roms? Theres really no reason to have more than 1 anymore. I have all my 3rd party controllers disabled because it just adds too much time to my bootup sequence, plus I don't have a need for them anyway. I am sure you have some smaller SATA hard drives that can be consolidated by buying a 2TB or 3TB drive.

    yea i do need to consolidate, but broke right now.

    i have 2 dvd drives for simultaneous burning and dvd copying. im currently backing up two 100stacks of porn dvds onto my porn drive. lol
