I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. It intermitently causes web browsing problems. Once or twice a day I have to unplug and plug back in the router to access the web. But it seems to only be a DNS problem, because Azureus and any chat programs I have work without a problem. I just can't surf the web, or the pages take ages to load (10-15 minutes just to load google.com). So I guess my question is, is there any way to set a static DNS with Comcast cable? I read that some people fixed their problems by doing this, but I have no clue as to how to do it.
you can set your dns addresses statically in your network connection in your operating system. I don't know about the default linksys firmware, but you can set static dns addresses in DD-WRT. I recently upgraded to a DD-WRT capable router and will never go back, there is no comparison. I actually had the problem you were having too with a belkin router, http would just die while everything else would work. All works well now though.
I know where to set the static DNS in the router, so do I just use the current DNS that it is using as the static DNS? Or is there another specific DNS I should be using?
Yeah, I tried the same opendns addresses and didn't have any luck unfortunately but maybe your problem will be different.
Bah still having the same problem. My friend gave me his D-Link wireless router to try it out, hopefully I won't have problems with it. I think I'm going to upgrade the firmware to DD-WRT on my linksys.
