well since I am on a train and walk over a mile for my job every day, i was thinking of getting some sort of portable media player so I can listen to music and watch video. My birthday is in 10 days so I might ask for one. what would you all recommend? I always want the best bang for the buck. I'd want one with a decent amount of storage.

Second Gen Ipod Mini + 16gb Compact flash card = Skip free 16gb Ipod for around 100 bucks. The hard drive uses the same connector as compact flash, so all you need to do is open it up and swap them out. Takes maybe 5-10 minutes and a small screw driver.

heh took me long enough and too long at crappy jobs to get where I am. 5 years to be exact after college to get this one. I didn't think I'd ever make this much but it's a financial firm so they have the money to throw around I guess.

i like to touches but they don't have super large hard drives. they seem a little pricey to me too. i don't know. are ipods still the way to go these days? i figured that there would be a cheaper alternative that would do a decent job.

Cowon and Archos have some nice PMPs at the moment.

yah i bought archos 605 wifi 160gb from walmart.com. reason i picked it because it has a lot of storage and the screen is bigger than the ipod touch. mine is almost 1 year old so they have new ones now that run on the 3g network like cellphones but not as much storage. just check out archos.com... hope that helps

another vote for archos or cowon..
zune if you can find one cheap, the software is still too cumbersome just to simply add a few songs.
